Actually he was in the Hitler Youth briefly, and served with a German
anti-aircraft unit near the end of the war.

Ratzinger may be have served with a German anti-craft unit and may has been in
the Hitler Youth.. But do you really think he had another choice??? Whoever
tried to say something against the Führer was dead.. so you think that
Ratzinger is guilty for being german??

Hitler Youth was compulsory when he joined, and he was conscripted into the AA
battery, before he deserted.
He used to be a relativist, but was more conservative than JP2 by the end

Not Ratzinger but Pope Pius XII fits into this image. It was him who tolerated
(and partially supported) the Nazis in fear of communism and growing Jewish
influence. When he realized the real danger it was too late.
Nevertheless - not all we Germans are happy with this new Pope. He's known to be
ultra-consevative and - what makes things worse - he's no dumbass and will
succeed in preventing necessary reforms.
But he's already 78, and perhaps this will only be a matter of time ...

just_wondering@150154... wonder no more: First of all, the OLD TESTEMENT is
written in Hebrew, Jesus wasn't spoken of by that name in the Old Testement,
therefore no "J" needed. It wasn't until the NEW TESTEMENT, which was
written in GREEK, that the name JESUS first appears, the book of Matthew 1:1 .
And pronunciation does change from one language to another, "Jesus" in
Spanish is pronounced differently. But I DO agree with you on your view of the
pope, Jesus said that no man comes unto the Father(GOD) but by him(JESUS). So
the pope is in vain.

The fact that he joined the Hitler youth as a boy shouldn't be held againt him.
Back then when he was 10 (1938 or so) It was highly mandatory of all adolesent
children to do so!! Parents would probably be sent to a concentration camp if
they didn't enroll the boy!!!
