Bush came into office with an advantage few presidents have enjoyed -- a $230
billion surplus. But due to a $1.35 trillion tax cut in 2001, a $1.5 trillion
tax cut in 2003, and a massive defense buildup through the Iraq and Afghanistan
wars, Bush quickly blew through that surplus. The next president will
"inherit a fiscal meltdown,"
Bush left 1.2 trillion dollar deficit...
what a new president too do...
Lexx Report This Comment Date: March 19, 2009 07:17PM
So with those numbers Bush cut 2.85 trillion in taxes letting corporations and
citizens keep more of the money they earned and spent huge amounts of money on
defense and even taking into account the 230 billion surplus we're only 1.2
trillion in debt instead of 2.62 trillion? I guess a lot of that money did
"trickle down" after all.
In the past we've had tax and spend democrats, now it looks like it's going to
be spend and tax democrats. The problem with the new bailout plan is it's full
of pork and social projects that do nothing to fix the current financial
situation. The banks still aren't lending money and people still aren't buying
houses and vehicles like we need them to. I can see everyone paying more taxes
in the future to pay off our debt. Well everyone but people on welfare or with
really low incomes. The rich are going to get hit hard and that will cause
unemployment to stay high.
True we can't blame Obama for the problems he inherited but we can blame him for
breaking almost every campaign promise he made and not getting off to a very
promising looking start to his administration.

i wouldn't be surprised if he didn't get us into it with Iran by now......glad
he didn't win, but Barry is the absolute worst alternative.
look how he treated England....how many things can Barry miss the fuckin' boat
on in 4 months? i would hate to see what junior league mistake is next.
oh i forgot Billary's slobbering fumble with the "overcharge" button!

and then she
laughed it off saying she wouldn't let them overcharge us?!?! dimwits took 2
months to make the United states look like drooling monkeys. makes me real proud
to be an American!

FrostedApe Report This Comment Date: March 20, 2009 04:49AM
There was never any "surplus". It was nothing but an accounting
trick. It was a
projected surplus on paper, forecast five years in the
future, based on a number of ridiculous assumptions. By that method, everyone
in America can have a personal $230 Billion surplus.
fossil_digger Report This Comment Date: March 21, 2009 03:11AM
i'm interested to see who the hell is going to lend us that 2 trillion bucks.
maybe the "Ruskie fumble" was a bit of foreshadowing? hmmmmm. the
Chinese well is drying up.

As a conservative who makes less than $200K per year, I feel that more tax cuts
for the wealthy would be the best thing for everyone. And I support
million-dollar bonuses for company executives because we have to retain the best
and the brightest people to run American companies. Welfare programs like
unemployment only keep stupid and lazy unemployed losers from getting off their
asses and looking for work.
