I have just recently read a book called 'Popcorn' by Ben Elton (he wrote 'The Young Ones' and the script for the movie, 'Maybe Baby'). It looked at the issues of media influnces on behaviour and personal responsibility.

What have other people read recently, or not so recently?

i usually like reading military memiors like band of brothers, black hawk down, in the company of heroes, a soldier's best friend (greatest book ever written, it even made me cry), a rumor of war, jarhead, parachute infantry, combat jump, and no birds sang, curahee!, etc...

I just finished reading 'Holy Cow!: An Indian Adventure' by Sarah MacDonald. Normally i don't read 'travel stories' but this was recomended by a few friends and I'm really glad I spent the time to sit down and have a read.

And this too is a "general chatter" discussion. I don't really see a big difference between this one and "where the hell are you from?" and "Why did you come here? Why do you stay?" in the " www.plus613.com" category. And another similar one is "Are you an M or an F?" which you have placed in the "general chatter" category.

Four very similar topics, spread over three different categories (of course, there may be more, but you've complicated the design so much that I can't be bothered to dig them all up).

And now I'm going to turn this " Entertainment" discussion into a web design discussion by suggesting that you skip the categories for discussions. :-)

As I mentioned in the plus613 section, "why did you come to the site?" may be "general chatter" but it's also regarding the site. "what books have you read?" fit firmly under the entertainment category, with films, tv, music and the like. Finally, "are you an M or an F?" is general chatter as it regards neither of the previous topics.

If you have issues with this, please address them to the appropriate section (that would be the website section, not entertainment) rather than dragging a thousand threads off topic.

To bring this conversation back on topic, "The Celestine Prophecy" and "The Bible Code" have both been in my reading pile recently, both are decent books, however I really should do more reading. I get nowhere near enough done these days.

From your point of view it may be about how to organize your site. From the users' point of view they are the kind of things that people do to get to know other people in a group. Most people couldn't care less about site design or statistics, they're just here to see the pictures and to get into arguments with other people.

Discussion topics tend to change over time. That's just how things work. On Usenet posters can do all sorts of things to change the direction, they can start new threads based on posts from old threads, they can rename a thread, they can set followups, etc. In a place like this that doesn't work. That's OK, this format is refreshingly simple, but asking people to "stick to the topic" or move a discussion to another place is completely pointless. People will reply in the same place where they found the post they reply to. That's just one of those fundamental human nature things...

Last book I read was the Dorling Kindersly picture book of animals. Amazingly engrossing stuff

For books that really make you laugh out loud, Tom Sharpe is hard to beat. The South African ones are good and the Wilt series is superb.

"The Men Who Stare At Goats" by Jon Ronson... about a US military battalion who attempted (succeeded?) to learn psychic assault techniques. The 'staring at goats' was a mental attack that burst the goats hearts and killed them. I'm not done w/ it yet (given to me by a friend) so I'm not sure how real it is. It starts out "this is a true story", but these days, who knows.

I am reading the fith book of Harry Potter...I red them all in a few weeks!

I finished Richard Hammond - On The Edge and Confessions of an Economic Hitman by John Perkins recently.

The first was very good. The latter was interesting but could've been a lot better.. mostly because I don't think it raises that much that we didn't already know (though some people may be unaware).

i just finished War and Peanuts.
