I'm really impressed by this.

The site was started around mid October, 2003. On January 28 2004, we hit 250,000 image views, which is around 3.5 months.

On April 21, we hit 1,000,000 image views, which is around another 3 months. This means in the 4th to 6th months of this site running, we had tripled our hit rate.

On November 4, we hit the 5,000,000 mark (incidentally, my birthdaysmiling smiley) which is roughly 6.5 months after we broke the million mark, which in itself took 6.5 months. Now, just 18 days later, we've broken 6,000,000 views! This is a massive rate of increase smiling smiley

I hope we can keep it up, and I'm pleased to see the new server is easily handling this hugely increased workload smiling smiley Keep spreading the word of plus613!

Since voting is restricted to 1 vote per IP address for each image,
maybe count of image views should be too?

It's just too easy to increase the counters by hitting "Reload".

True, but a view is a view regardless of if you've seen an image before or not. A view has a quantifyable cost in bandwidth and server processing terms. It lets us look at the site and say "it costs us $x per y amount of image views to run this site". A vote costs us nothing to count or ignore.

The limiting of votes of one per IP address is simply to stop people ballot stuffing, which would effect the overall usefulness of the site and the voting system. The counting of multiple views per IP address allows us to track the success and resource usage of the site. They're used for entirely different reasons.

If you drive down your street twice in one day, you don't reset the mileage counter in your car - it still costs you petrol and wear and tear in your car, just because you've been there before is irrelevent smiling smiley

Here it is, just 3 days later, and we're at 6.25 million views. In theory, this means the next million will come up in 12 days, hammering even the 18 days that the last million took.

If this hit rate is achieved, 7,000,000 image views should hit on or around the 4th of December.. assuming the hit rate isn't still rising, that is, and it comes in earlier.

We'll see smiling smiley

So I think that's, what, 17 days? We've just broken 7,000,000 images viewed. Not quite December 4 like I predicted, but still not far behind, and it's still an increase in hits over the last one. That's around 60,000 a day, up from 55,000 a day only 2.5 weeks ago.

Still an impressive rate of increase smiling smiley

12 days for the next million, which is roughly 84,000 views a day up from 60k just under a fortnight ago.

I'm impressed grinning smiley
