No that only works on idiots.
However there are lots of idiots so yeah, you have a point.

I have to agree with you woby, movies and video games only have adverse effects
on idiots because if they affected people adversely we would have a lot more
insane killings in this country. With all the violent movies and video games
being watched and played in America alone and we only have one person insanely
killing every few years? We have to learn to blame the person who commits the
crime and not the inanimate objects they use or watch. The video games movies
or guns do not kill people anymore than cars kill people.

True, only idiots and mentally ill people are influenced and desensitized by
this stuff to the point of commiting violence, but even that means that the
dramatized violence does more to spur the real violent acts than does an
inanimate object like a gun or some fertilizer & diesel fuel. Without the
instruction as to how weapons can be used, and the desensitization to their
results of thier uses, perhaps there would be less violence. That said, I think
everyone should be free to watch what they want, play what they want, and own
any gun they want because curbing the freedoms of all in the vain hope of
preventing the actions of a few is a path to tyranny.

There ya go.
So you're really pissed off at everyone you work with, you're already crazy,
then you see a thing on the tube where someone kills a bunch of people at work.
The seed is planted. And you're not too concerned about any gun laws you may be
breaking when you're thinking about murder. So is it because of the gun, the TV
show, or being crazy?
woberto Report This Comment Date: December 24, 2012 10:57PM
I think violent images de-sensitise people.
They probably don't give people motives but they remove emotion and empathy for
the victim.
That's a pre-requisite for pre-meditated murder if you ask me.

We all harbor sociopathic energies and tendencies, and just as certainly
psychotic demons, if you will. The only difference between most of us and the
few that act upon these is that the rational mind, coupled with our innate sense
of morality, keeps them in check.
Having seen countless hours of murder, mayhem, extreme violence, insane rage and
similar abhorrent and inhumane behavior played out on screens in front of my
eyes for most of my life, while it serves to titillate a strange and dark part
of my psyche, it's never lead me to feel as if taking a life would be any less
violent or irreal, nor have I ever felt the itch to do so.
It is only those of us who through a lack of caring or compassion for our fellow
humans who can then perpetrate such inhumane and insane acts upon others.
Hence, the insanity, not visualized synthetic or even real visions of violence,
nor the gun/knife/stick/rock, or whatever other instrument the insane use to
perpetrate their actions upon others is to blame

yeah well.
Merry Christmas, you bunch of degenerates.

jgoins Report This Comment Date: December 25, 2012 11:24AM
Just because one is desensitized to violence does not mean they have lost their
humanity or value for life. One has to have no values to start with before they
start their rampage. I imagine even the Amish have had some insane killers and
they never had video games.
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day. Here's hoping you all get more
than just coal for Christmas.
