the way he's playing makes it look like it might be a wide mouth 12 string
bass.

Most other 12-string basses use four courses of three strings, tuned in
octaves, but this one appears to be 12 individual strings which is highly
unusual, but not unique. I wasn't able to find one exactly like this, using
Google image search, so I'm not sure what make it is. Interesting, to be sure,
but not very practical, IMHO.

it would probably be easier to play if it had been built like a double bass,
floor standing, easier to reach around with both your arms.
