I would really love to join you on one of your morning paddles. It always
looks so peaceful.

It is, with just me and the occasional early morning fisherman or crabber out
there, though many of the places I go are within earshot of highways (yet far
enough away to be able to tune out the traffic noise). I'm not an early morning
person by nature but as it's the only time I have available to go I make the
best of it. And it is the most pleasant part of the day in a place that is hot
and humid with stormy afternoons this time of year. This morning was almost
perfect - when the sun came up it was just cloudy enough to keep the temp down
until I was done; literally five minutes into the drive back home the sun came
out full force. I hate getting up at 4 A.M. to do this but afterward I'm always
glad I did. It's done wonders in helping ease my back troubles, too, a
completely unexpected benefit.

I am not a morning person either. Once a year though I try hard to book myself
a canoe trip into one of the local parks or reserves if I can. Every morning I
force myself up to paddle the lake while it's still calm out. Some of my
favourite moments bar none.
Though most of my canoe time has been on Ontario lakes, I have occasionally had
the opportunity to travel down a winding marsh river and I have always loved it.
