Is this a political stance to get the world population to take note of the
Aussies locked in overseas prisons?

who gives a fuck. hes a convicted heroin dealer who wouldve known the laws that
apply in that country (ie BIG FUCKING SIGNS saying death penaltys apply for drug
trafficking in the airports when you arrive). And everyone back in Australia is
protesting like hes innocent or some shit. and as that article says "with
its zero tolerance approach to drugs - has the highest execution rate, per
capita, in the world". its like running straight into barbwire.
Jesus_Christs_Love_Child Report This Comment Date: November 27, 2005 01:59PM
Yes Katalyst, a convicted drug trafficker he is, he was caught red handed and
he knew the risks involved. Why us Australians are protesting is we abolished
the death penalty in the late 1950's. I'm not saying that's a justified reason
to save his neck but most people here are saying that the death penalty is way
to harsh for someone who was traffiking. He isn't the dealer and he isn't a
junkie, very fucking stupid, yes, but nevertheless they could use him for their
own benfits rather than kill him. Singapore buisness is going to suffer as a
result and the Australian government will keep the pressure on even after he's
dead. Though Katalyst, I'm sure it won't change a fucken thing.
Jesus_Christs_Love_Child Report This Comment Date: November 27, 2005 02:10PM
And just to add to that Katalyst, isn't it funny how everyone who is sitting on
death row becomes best mates with God?
Lol, if they had become best mates with God in the first place, I'd say there'd
be a good chance that they wouldn't be committing such crimes like
that!.........hrmmm, makes me wonder.

So because Australia has abolished the death penalty that means that ALL other
countries on the face of the earth HAVE to do likewise? Explain to me how
Australia gets to make the rules for everyone? Okay, let's turn this
around...in some countries, rape is not a crime...so if someone from that
country goes to Australia and starts raping women, it is okay? Why not? In
their country is it okay. Would Australians put them in prison? How dare them.

Does the punishment fit the crime is the question I'd like answered and
struggling to answer. Though on the one hand, I sympathize with the poor bugger,
on the other, as what katalyst said, trying to smuggle drugs through Singapore
is like running through a barb wire. One knows the risks involved. The signs are
everywhere. But the dealers still try to do it (or get their runners to do it)
because once you pass through Singapore, its almost a free ticket home.
katalyst Report This Comment Date: November 28, 2005 06:26AM
yeah true jesus he is just a courier...but goddamn how stupid he is. as if not
try to smuggle into other easier countries (ie netherlands)...or cut it up in
Australia and sell it? fucking bizarre. And what a crock of shit..."my
brother owed money so this was the best option to help him out". excuse me?
500 GRAMS of heroin is hardly helping out. thats millions of dollars worth of
money to be made there.
whats interesting to note though...no government in the world pushes for
pressure on burma (where copious amounts of opium is grown every year) and
spreads around the world quicker than you can blink.
Jesus_Chrits_Love_Child Report This Comment Date: November 28, 2005 07:20AM
I agree totally Katalyst. Of what I can gather, every one protesting in Aus is
not saying he shouldn't be punished, far from it! however, an absolutely dumb
stupid idiotic idea as it was, the feedback here is that the death penalty does
not fit the crime. We've got a small group of rapists and murderers in prison
here, who will get bed and breakfast for the rest of their living days, and yet,
those guys should have been hung 20 times over for what they have done!
Overall, you can't please all of the people, all of the time.

for a start 300 grams of good H will knock into,, say 8 hits from a gram 8 x
300 = 2400 hits that's 2 days worth for 300 'users' or,,, you work it out. Its
not exactly a lot. well I suppose it is, if its found down your sock on a
Singapore air plane, I always thought an 'airport air strip' was international
land. Your not in the country until you have passed the customs and passport
check. So in the whole rest of the world the Airstrip is 'international' but not
in Singapore? You must stop going there, don't buy any good made or 'imported'
via Singapore. Make Singapore a swear word. Paint their embassy red. The
government should follow your lead. Boycott Singapore. Otherwise the world will
see the Aussies sold one of your own to Singapore.
A UK lad is in long term jail in Turkey for a football match fight. Our
government have abandoned him also. what do we get from our government, as
protection against 'uncivilised laws in foreign places?

This slope head prick was about to bring in thousands of junk shots to
Australia, say there were 20,000 shots.
20,000 junkies needed a shot but have no cash, they each go and break into a
house and steal.
Insurance premiums go up, normal people lose valuable possesions and pawn
brokers get rich.
Let him swing in the breeze, and if he had been caught in Australia he would
have got 5 years.
I am glad the right country caught him.
Death to all drug mules and traffickers.
Anonymous Report This Comment Date: November 28, 2005 05:08PM
The guy is an idiot, but the death penalty is far too harsh for any crime.
Sounds incredibly cliched to say you should respond to criminals with love not
hatred, but if the system worked that way the world wouldbe a better place. He
probably only did it because it was easy money, so any punishment should be
geared towards helping the guy, not killing him.

I've gotta agree with 12868 and Aussie Frank. I see your point 92166, but
there's gotta be another way to deal with this. It is quite obvious that the
threat of hanging for being a mule is not stopping people from doing it!
Singapore will keep hanging and the mules will keep muling! It's not going to
stop them.
The detterant is not working. As one mule hangs, another replaces him.

This is by far a unjust punishment for the crime. Like a poster said a few
back. We have rapists and muderers that get life and even sometimes another
chance to walk free. Legalize the stuff and there won't be greedy people making
money. Won't be junkys stealing to get money to pay for the fix. Offer programs
for the ones that would like to quit but otherwise, it's their body. They should
be able to do what they want with it without the expense of others. That's where
you legalize it.
Poxy_Cunt Report This Comment Date: November 29, 2005 06:17AM
Good point JWH and the Groove.
Someone's gotta come up with a better game plan.
Even though being a grass will probably get you killed anyway, but nevertheless,
there are better uses for those type of criminals. Killing them stops the cycle
of rehabilitation and learning how to get to the source of the problem.
Katalyst mentioned Burma, (the source) How's about a little bit of napalm to fix
the problem?!!! Thing is, there's nothing in it for any government to do such a
thing.

has evolved. We let the state kill thousands with abandon so why care that they
are killing an individual. I don't recall the international community bitching
when nearly a million where snuffed out in Rwanda. Shame on all the so called
civilized nations who still have a death penalty.

If I found myself in the position of being able to kill someone who advocates
the killing of others who merely have the bad luck of not being a doctor or
lawyer doing or prescribing opiates to people, I would kill that person myself.
I am entirely sick and enraged at the number of vicious, stupid assholes who
think that they can tell others what they can or cannot do with their own
bodies, particularly while they are sucking down alcohol, the one drug that has
the most harmful short and long-term effects of them all. I think it's time that
people starting showing their displeasure with this modern witch-hunt and
starting fighting back...violently if need be.

exactly - Opiates are the only drug that cause NO know long term damage
(cancer, liver, heart, kidney, etc...) when used correctly. It's because of it
being a controlled substance that makes it incredibly dangerous. Oh the irony.
But if it wasn't illegal, entire industries would be destroyed. Opium wars
