Where's the next sentence? You know, THE FULL QUOTE.
“I can't
stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term,
and it does a lot of damage. I much prefer the word compassion, and I much
prefer the word sympathy. Empathy is where you try to feel someone's pain and
sorrows as if they're your own. Compassion allows for understanding."
-Charlie Kirk
And you have the audacity to call me a moron.
Day after day you come here and spread your hate that is fully based on
inflammatory headlines, cherry picked statistics, and half quotes.
It gets pointed out to you over and over but you refuse to believe you have a
problem.

Step 1: The dog whistle
Step 2: The softening
The full quotes, the context, never improves his original statement. I gave a
family member and example intended to give him a taste of empathy and he freaked
out at how awful it was, that taste of empathy. It was in regard to Kirk's
acceptable losses notion to maintain the 2nd amendment, something I still
maintain means he was a victim of his own bullshit. All I did was ask what if it
was his children killed, does he still stand by the idea. That's the essence of
empathy, what if it happened to me, and this good, Christian relative of mine
was actually angry with me for that insight into empathy, acted as if I was
suggesting that they actually be shot. Sure it was a horrible, painful thought,
but that's what empathy is, and he just shut down and wouldn't discuss it
further. Sympathy is fine, but it's empathy's weak sibling and doesn't give the
fullest measure of thought and care. When these school shootings happen my
grandchildren, his children, his nieces and nephews, my friends' children....
they always come to my mind. That is empathy.
