I replaced mine at 90K miles/145K km along with the timing belt before a
failure.

So how's life w/the Soobie been treatin ya so far quasi?
Though I've never owned one I've admired them from afar

I love it. Always been partial to wagons and it does whatever I ask of it
including some pretty wicked mudholes that didn't even phase it. Not all Subie's
have the head gasket problem but I'm one of the lucky ones with that particular
engine model so I was proactive about replacing them. I'm not thrilled about it
being an interference engine either but it's far from unique in that respect so
I've been proactive about that as well. It's a 2002 so it doesn't have all the
bells and whistles but I hate bells and whistles so.......It was an old lady car
I got six years ago with 85K and now it has 131K with lots of life left in it.
The 4 banger isn't quick, even less so when I pull my small cargo trailer
camper, but I'm rarely in a hurry anymore and stick mostly to the back roads
when I travel. Rides and drives well and I'm a happy camper.

q-man, can the Soobi tow the trailer?

It can and does, woberto, towing that trailer later today, in fact, just can't
load the trailers too heavily. I miss that big old boat of a station wagon I
used to have, though, it was great at towing but was a really thirsty beast V8
petrol.
