Could that cat in the sleeper still be considered a back seat driver ... in a
driverless truck

Yes. He was the emergency driver for the test. We do not need automated
trucks on the road, there is so much involved in driving a truck that really
should have human involvement. With all the hacking going on now we do not need
50 ton killing machines roaming the highways. Not to mention all the accidents
they will cause when people pass them and see no driver. How will DOT pull them
over and harass the driver when there is no driver? How will the police even
pull them over to check for contraband? How will truck drivers support their
families?

Total Bullshit.
This will never happen. And show me a drone that can keep up with a truck
that is supposedly doing top speed along a highway with no driver and sensory
equipment.
Also, if there's no driver, you don't need side mirrors.
Bullshit

Uber are about to find out what Union power really means.
You start removing truckers jobs, the truckers will start removing
family members of Uber managers from their cushy little homes
and smash their heads in with iron bars.
It's gonna get bloody.

why would you use 2 different names to comment in the same thread...?
show you a drone that can keep up with a truck? okay, here's one: [
youtu.be]
but what makes you think this was filmed using a drone? I mean considering that
you can see the reflection of the vehicle with the film crew in it in the chrome
of the semi's mirror housing ...
side mirrors are required for the driver to park the damn thing at the
dock...
bullshit? why so pessimistic and what's with all the vitriol all the time with
you? relax...
Union power? possibly ...

Charlie, cool your tool. I see way too many things that drivers have to do
when driving a truck that computers just can't do. One example is, who is going
to put fuel in these trucks? I don't think a truck can go across country
without refueling. I just don't think a computer can cope with driving in city
streets especially NYC. How will a computer know it ran over a racoon and not a
human? There will be no more answering with a blast of the horn when a child
signals the driver.

Coal trains have been unmanned for 20 years now. Bit of a difference but the
point is, if BIG business was to cut costs, it WILL happen.

Trains run on tracks so they need little intervention. Trucks are different
story though. There are so many instances on highways and city streets where
human interaction should be needed. I for one do not want to see these massive
killing machines running on our roads. In order to have them automated there
will be a need to remotely access these controls and with that comes the
possibility of hacking with deadly results.
