I worked in and around the building trades for almost thirty years using inches
and feet. Trying to think metric hurts my brain, though I've got meters and
kilometers down pretty well, only because they're pretty easily converted to
yards and miles with rough estimates.

Whereas when I moved to the UK and everything was in miles, I found it really
easy to convert metric to local measurements... but very hard to go the other
way
