fossil_digger Report This Comment Date: December 13, 2011 01:34AM
i know the song, but the TV show is even more obscure....so there.

The song was real popular among beginning guitarists. It was like the Stairway
To Heaven of folk guitar playing. "Can you play Alice's Restaurant,
man?" The TV show was a flop but Flo was funny. "Kiss my grits."
The restaurant is real and that's a photo from Goggle maps, which is why it's so
shitty. BTW F_D, there is an city named Alice in Texas in case you were not
aware. This is sadly what happens when you're bored and someone on Plus asks
where the fuck is Alice...

And then there's this song [
www.youtube.com] which asks the musical question
"Where the Fuck is Alice?"

BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: December 13, 2011 03:07PM
That's the same song P_J linked to but done by another guy.

I had this song categorized in my collection as Dr Hook but ..... according to
Wikipedia it's actually Smokie, whom I'd never heard of till I looked it up

BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: December 13, 2011 08:56PM
Some people mistakenly attributed the song "Living Next Door to
Alice" to Dr. Hook which is understandable because the band Smokie did
sound like Dr. Hook in that song and it was covered by other people but not by
Dr. Hook that I can confirm, even though there is one YouTube video I watched
(the one P_J linked to) claiming to be by Dr. Hook but it is not, it is also by
Smokie. Smokie is also a band name, not a person's name. BTW, it is "WHO
the fuck is Alice" not "WHERE the fuck is Alice" that is in the
chorus of the song.

Also, Google maps is wrong, as usual. The little round red circle with the
pointer on it and a big "A" in the middle does not point to Alice's
Restaurant. If you zoom in enough it points at an empty triangular shaped
"lot" (if you can call it a lot) in the middle of an intersection of
Skyline Blvd and some other road where no restaurant of any sort could possibly
fit, not even a hot-dog cart. It's not even big enough for a small dog to
eventually settle down and find a place to shit in. The restaurant is back up
the street about a block and a half and on the other side of the street and a
lot smaller than one might imagine but not small enough to fit in that
triangular spot in the middle of the intersection of Skyline Blvd and some other
road where a small dog wouldn't even be able to eventually settle down and take
a shit in. Way to go Google maps. No wonder people get lost.

oh shut up, i won this deal days ago.

BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: December 14, 2011 12:08AM
But wait Fossil, there's more!
Arlo said at the beginning of the song that the name of the restaurant was not
"Alice's Restaurant" but that is the name of the song and it was a
song about Alice, however the song is NOT about Alice at all so he was lying
from the get go. It's about Alice's and Ray's garbage that was in the church
that he and his friend got busted for throwing off a cliff and then about his
adventure at the selective service induction center and the Group W bench and
all that other horseshit but it was most definitely NOT about Alice at all. It
wasn't even about her restaurant or even her husband Ray. It wasn't even about
their dog supposedly named Fasha. Fasha probably wouldn't have settled down and
taken a shit in that little triangle on Google Maps either, if it's name was
even Fasha. Arlo Guthrie lied to us. He fucking LIED to us! Don't you see the
significance? Besides, who would name their fucking dog Fasha? Isn't that a
Muslim name? What's a nice Jewish boy doing hanging out with people who give
their dog a Muslim name?

Actually it's like an onion...
My references to Alice are humorous to Australians because of the song by
"Kevin Bloody Wilson" titled "Living next door to Alan".
It's hard to explain.

In my research about Alice I did happen upon the reference to Kevin Bloody
Wilson and Living Next Door To Alan song but I haven't heard it yet.
