Interesting. A foreign journalist, working out of a country that has supported
the war in Iraq, offering up a view radically different from that which our
government and our soldiers keep trumpeting, despite one 'horrific accident'
after another. Food for thought.

As an American I would like to apologise to all the Americans for not being
there to have shot the liberal commie bitch myself.

Joe49... you are absolutely right - if someone doesn't agree with you - shoot
them, it's the only way forward in this enlightened 21st century world of ours

Yes! Especially if they are driving around at night, in Iraq, not at all
responding to "hand signals" given by camoflauged men with large
weapons under significant cover, at an impromptu checkpoint. How rude of those
silly Italians to do that!

You all americans forget that in Italy soldiers are anti-communist by
tradition, so you shot a communist, but also two anti-communists and by irony of
the fate you killed one of the two anti-communists ones, one of the soldiers, a
friend of yours...funny, isn't it?

No mkerusky, this event is not funny by any stretch of the imagination.
Regardless of some of the posters here, I would bet a lot of money that the
soldier that killed the Italian officer is very remorseful knowing that he
killed an allied soldier. Not only that, but this kid knows that he has caused a
major international embarrassment for the United States. The U.S. military does
court marshall it's members for wrongdoings. In Afghanistan, an overzealous
American F-16 pilot bombed a group of Canadian soldiers who were practicing at a
firing range. He killed 4 and badly wounded 8. He was found guilty by a court
marshall for dereliction of duty and will never fly for the air force again.

Anthony I agree the probably in a sense those soldiers are "victims"
and in fact in the official italian version it has been stated that they looked
remorseful (they use the italian word "sconfortato"

. In fact no one in Italy is accusing
specifically the shooter, but the whole system, because we simply want to know
what happened.
We are simply afraid that like in the only other important case in which USA
soldiers killed Italian people (after WWII of course), the case of the Cermis,
USA didn't allow Italy to process the american soldiers, which were proven to be
guilty of killing 20 persons and were absolved in USA. After a while one of
these murederers (because they were murderers in that case (it has been proven),
has also been award a medal in USA.... that's why we are basically sceptic, but
neverheless we hope that what happened in the past is not going to happen
anymore

than fiction.
