We have occasional backups, however with the site taking up over 7 gig of space these days any system failure would mean a setback for the site. The plan of action we have in place in case of a system failure would be to go to the pub, get drunk, probably go to sleep and think about it in the morning.

We are currently working on a categorisation system which will allow you to "vote" an image into one of around 10 predefined categories. One of these categories will be something along the lines of "disgusting/inappropriate" so as to draw our attention to images that we've missed. The site will probably continue to operate as it does now, however there will be further optio

Thanks for the feedback, if anybody else is having the issue where they only see a plus613 logo instead of an image, could you please let us know? We've made a change to the image theft system which should allow even non-RFC compliant browsers to function properly so long as the image request originates from our site.

Because the developers of the site know PHP and not JSP mostly This site started purely as an exercise to learn PHP, nothing more. It slowly formed around that premise. It was also a good excuse to learn SQL. plus613.com runs on a dedicated P4-2.4ghz server with a gig of RAM and 80 gig of storage, running Red Hat Linux with a load average of around 1.50 to 2.50. The HTTP server is Apache. We

There is a problem with the image processing software whereby it crashes when it has completed generating the thumbnail etc. We are currently investigating other programs to use to perform this function within PHP, and we have no idea why it's become so bad lately (it used to be once in a blue moon). As you've noticed though, the images are successfully uploaded without a problem.

The caching time has been reduced to 30 seconds, which has still seen a *massive* decrease in the load on the server as people requesting the same peices of information from the database reload from cache instead of live. As DarkKlown said, this may mean images online, forum/image comments, statistics, etc could be 30 seconds or so behind what's really there. This is unavoidable, we moved serv

It's a nice idea, and something we will be looking into as we move to expand the functionality of the forum over the coming weeks. For it to truly work, however, we need a lot more people to register accounts (and use them). Of the 7000 odd daily unique users this site receives, we have a total of 345 registered users. Anybody who posts an image comment and has an @xxxx after their name has

Likewise, merry christmas. By the way, if you want to see banter between the admins, you should maybe try the IRC channel that spawned this site, #plus613 on efnet. We're regularly abusing each other there, which is why we don't really discuss things with each other on the site.

I've noticed it can take a few attempts for the uploader name to actually be saved. Yes, you need to type it in if the box is blank, and yes the name input box is meant to show. If you leave the box blank it will display "anonymous" as you correctly guessed. I guess we should probably take it out, it's been removed off all the other parts of the site when you're logged in.

mkcerusky: I've changed the name on that image for you, though if you're logged in and upload a few images your username will be saved when you go to upload which will eliminate mistakes in the future

Hehe It's been pissing me off for ages, not being able to tell if one person was different from another and if the same anonymous person was just replying to his/herself, etc, so I had some thoughts about how to fix it (I was getting to the stage where I wanted to ban 'anonymous' because of it) and revert implemented it all yesterday. I personally think it's a fantastic addition to the site t

The image toolkit we use to generate thumbnails and so forth is.. quite poor. If you've tried to upload an image lately you'll see that the whole damn thing just crashes, but fortunately after it's done the work we require. We used to do image resizing, however they came out like - as you can see from this example, it's hardly ideal Until we can find an image toolkit which both works and

People are welcome to post what they want, I don't censor any of it. All that was removed that was complained about was maybe 10 bullshit image comments that were made under somebody's stolen account. I also remove the occasional REALLY disgusting, illegal and/or highly racist images, some of which manage to be all 3 at once.

Hahahah and image votes are currently not working. "whoops" Hey, at least the site is still displaying pictures, we haven't made THAT big a hash of adding the new features Darkklown, you're a shit coder, and I'm an even worse tester.

And yes, image comments are currently broken, as is the upload processor so you get an error after you upload an image (been like that for a few days but I thought I'd mention it). Obviously the image is still added to the site. We'll try and get image comments fixed as soon as.. later.

So I think that's, what, 17 days? We've just broken 7,000,000 images viewed. Not quite December 4 like I predicted, but still not far behind, and it's still an increase in hits over the last one. That's around 60,000 a day, up from 55,000 a day only 2.5 weeks ago. Still an impressive rate of increase

It's a simple problem of logistics. As DarkKlown pointed out, we've got around 6.6 million image views and less than half a million votes. That means for every 15.4 image views, somebody casts a vote. How many do you think will even bother to do that if they have to select 2 options to do so? The classification system would have to go further than that though. What about image comments? At the
