It helps but really it's a bit random If there's been a good image with some good votes uploaded recently it's likely to be chosen, otherwise I flick around and try to find something good.

Flexible image scaling: WHen viewing an image, if I have free space on my browser window (particularly on my desktop with high res screen), let's use it - rather than the image being scaled smaller than it needs to be and having to expand it.

Yeah, that was always the problem with automating it. Well, there's a few, particularly on this site (some of the issues are lesser on the porn side) but.. there's not typically enough votes to distinguish a weekly winner, they'd all be along the same lines (not saying I don't choose things on the same line but I try to mix it up at least a little bit whenever I bother doing it), and the last one

Allow tagging when uploading images Consider multi-image uploads (at least maybe for registered users over X amount of time?) Umm I dunno, there's loads of things. I'll think more.

It uses mk-parallel-dump with --threads 1. That's what I meant, I could change it to 2, 3, 4... but it's fine like this. Happy for it to take its time, anyway. As I said, so long as it finishes, don't give a toss how long it takes, especially if it doesn't bring the server to its knees while doing so Funny though, the backup script is using twice the RAM as the database. Might have to look at

I'm running the weekly backup now, which typically brings the sites to their knees. Right now the backup is using 100% of 1 CPU core but plenty more where that came from, and things seem pretty responsive. Could probably speed up the backup by letting it run multiple cores but I don't care how long it takes, so long as it completes without killing the sites

Yeah DK's a bitch. The top list is such a query hungry monster. It's even worse on the porn side because there's so many more records for it to count. I did some mysql reconfig last night after putting the site live and it went from 350% CPU use to cruising around 20% now. So we're definitely not CPU bound! There's still about 30GB of RAM free too. Pretty happy with how things are going

Actually it's settled down now, might just be as the database finishes paging out the transactions from the restoration. Whatever, anyway all good I think

It doesn't happen very often. Load is starting to come in again, and I'm redirecting connections from the old server to the new one so it should be back for everybody now. I'm actually a bit shocked at the CPU usage on the new one though.. 334% utilised right now (there's 8 cores so it's still less than half), There's loads of RAM left and a lot of CPU still empty so things are pretty goo

There'll be an outage for probably around 2-3 hours tomorrow while I migrate things to the new server. The new server is built and setup, so just needs a final DB/image synchronisation & change of DNS. I don't know exactly what time I'll do it yet, depends on my availability tomorrow. It'll either be morning AEST (say 10am Melbourne time) or around 10-11pm Melbourne time. for those who

Yeah. Unfortunately it won't be online in time for this Sunday, but maybe I'll just disable it for tomorrow.. Then again with the broken RAID array if we lose another disk we lose all the data so a backup is probably important. FedEx has picked up the server, so it's on its way to destination. I think it's just road transfer though. Estimated delivery July 18th, it'll probably take 2-3 days to

Unfortunately data transfer and disk space are nowhere near enough New core DB server will be online in a few days, looking forward to it. Maybe I'll be able to backup the database without bringing the server screaming to its knees...

Yeah, with that upload speed we'd saturate your link and it's be unusable that's cool, happy to pay for hosting at least for now, but thanks for the offer :$

Slight problem on the server this week as most of you will have noticed. We had a physical failure on the DB server, causing an outage - especially bad as we also lost power to the box at the same time. The failure was a HD in the array, which should normally not have taken down the server, but when power was lost too, the system decided it wouldn't boot with a degraded RAID array. Ho hum.

If you actually had a connection fast enough I'd be tempted It'd be so much cheaper to host off a standalone server without having to pay the premiums for rack mounted, 1RU servers. Once you get to enterprise boxes the price goes through the roof; bang for buck, they're terrible. The servers I'm looking at now cost more than my desktop PC, which is totally top of the line. The servers are 2nd

There's a race on live now I think.. probably finished actually. Busy watching football (north melbourne vs west coast) with my wife, good game. I may have found a better server option, from a guy who's told me in the past he'll configure the remote console for me, so I might be able to get it shipped straight to the colo centre if I decide to buy one.. so we'll see. Nice looking boxes. Wha

Stuff isn't that hard, but at the worst I'm sure it can't be too hard to factory reset the remote console & give me access it's more the physical stuff I need.

Reckon you can setup a raid array, define a logical volume group & configure a remote system console? Or even just the remote console and give me access to something? Reason I'm asking is I'm looking at a new server for the sites, but it's in the US, and I'm not paying for intercontinental shipping. Twice. So I need some arms and feet stateside somewhere to help me with at least getti

It's a pretty good analogy actually. I imagine most of our users as toothless drunks who sit in the dark corner of the internet mumbling to themselves... We've done okay in the grand scheme of things I think. If I were to put a price on it, I'd say it's lost $10k, but most of that was at the start where our hosting fees were much higher than now. We own our own hardware these days, not rented
