The main problem with md5 checking is some image viewing programs update file information (last viewed meta information) when someone opens the file with them. So yes the new system tries to recognise the image in the same way that computer facial recognition works. It has a little bit of a overhead but because it's only done on new additions it shouldn't cause a problem.

We're starting to get to the size where it's becoming a common problem that people upload duplicate images. To combat this i'm playing around with some rather funky math and image recognition code that hopefully should stop duplicates being upload (even if they have been slightly changed, ie watermark) if you try and upload something and the system thinks it exists it will give you a link to

Ok dv8 i've modified the users_online to not show the last 2 parts of the ip. The map can stay as is because you can't link who is actually who from what ip, and location information from ip's is public space anyway.

Yah i have a idea for the blocks, registered users will soon be able to pick a block to appear on whatever section they want (1 for the gallery, 1 for images, 1 for everything else or 1 for all) I'm making a list of 'block' ideas. Having a list of friends who are online could be one of them. What else would people like to see? Anything from rss feeds of others sites to search boxes can be done.

You can remove friends now. I don't like the idea of removing shouts, they disappear anyway so just don't type in anything you don't want seen for the time it takes for other people to comment. 'has no friends' changed to 'has not added any friends', usernames in shoutbox are linked, seeing who has added you as a friend is going to take a little more code.

PM buddies is just a list of people you 'regularly' send private messages too. Think of friends as people whom you like their uploads and want to make sure you don't miss one. And yes that's correct, people can now see what your voting on!! favourite images are images with 4 and above rating, hated are 2 and below. And remember you can change your vote anytime on a image just by revoting.

Yah i noticed this i think it has to do with the fact i'm using javascript to do the 'alt' tag for the comments and not for the thumb. I'm unsure why i did this so maybe by either making them both use the javascript or neither it will fix. I'll add it to my list

Hi Guys, I've just enabled the ability to minimise the side blocks. (click the little minimise graphic to make the block disappear, and click it again to make it reappear). I'm also going to enable to ability to 'hide' messages from any user you want. Just click the x next to their name in a image comment. To see them again just click the x again.

GAK: actually i was recently surprised that the correct spelling for a number of words where i believed you should use s and americans use z is actually to use z. It's actually French influence to use the s's and correct (language that is written in the English parliament) spellings is with a z. take a look here.
