Don't know if those stats are correct, though the ratios sound roughly up there with what the UK has been experiencing.

This is really the issue with this virus; doesn't matter where it came from, what caused it, whatever. It's really not a case of 99:1 OK:BAD. There's a significant number of "in between" cases too, so while it may not kill you it may fuck you up to the point where that might actually be worse.

Sadly the world has given up because it's all too hard/expensive. I'm hoping we will get back on top of things in Melbourne "real soon", and the new outbreaks in Sydney will get under control; after that it's going to be very interesting to see what happens with eg international travel; too much money and effort has gone into trying to get things under control to just open up borders again. Though that's a lot easier to control for places like Australia or New Zealand with no land borders.
