Well, they are trying to influence the Senate (won't work) about the trial. And to do as much damage as they can. So if they have a tooth or a nail left they will use it.
BTW, there appear to be other legal opinions on the 'transmit to Senate' component. Judge Ken Starr just called it impeachment with a footnote. The Senate might just go ahead anyway. We'll see.
