137138: Canada was fighting in WW 1 while the Yanks were remaining neutral; the US President at the time was Wilson. America didn't declare war on Germany until April 1917. Keep in mind the war started in 1914. America was "over there" alright, albeit a little late. WW 2 was no exception. America stayed neutral until December 7, 1941 (a mere 3 weeks from 1942. WW 2 began in 1939). Once again late, but better late than never. Canada was in Korea in the 1950's too. At the end of WW 2 Cananda had the third largest navy in the world. Politics and politicians probably learned the lessons of two and a half world wars and led the country in a different direction. Peace keeping was the way to invest in world peace instead of kicking down doors. Canada did send troop to Afghanistan after Sept 11th and lost four troops to some hyper American jet jockey in an F-16 with a 500 lb bomb. On a positive note Canadian snipers wacked a bunch of Al Quada who were pinning down the Americans in a firefight. One Canadian sniper holds the unofficial longest range kill record,(sorry I can't remember the yardage and I don't want to guess). The US governmeny wanted to give the Canadain soldier a US medal for that but the Canadian government wouldn't let him accept it.
