I use McAfee Internet Security Suite and have had no problems with it. It always catches virii before they infect my system and it also looks for spyware and other nastiness as well.

I used to work for McAfee. I'm not a big fan of their home user stuff, but the enterprise software is rock solid and fast.

I use a mac without any additional antivirus - I can open any file with impunity.
I use netbarrier x3 to stop anyone trying to get in, and to stop any software trying to get out...

I use "Avast!" antivirus, and "spyware blaster" and "spybot search & destroy" for protecting from spyware etc. ...ah, of course they are all free!

I use "AVG Anti-virus", "Sygate 5.5 firewall" (5.6 i have had problems with, but 5.5 is good), "Adaware" and "Spybot" (both spyware scanners). All are free, and I have never had anything nasty since using them (I update and scan daily). But don't forget to back-up regularly anything you can't bear to lose - I back-up onto a second hard drive: easy, cheap and fast.

skaner.mks.com.pl - in Polish but there's an English version. This scanner catches stuff a lot of American scanners miss, and is updated constantly.

You have to use Internet Explorer for all of them.
Some look for spyware as well.

Try to use more than one AV software, 3 is better.
If one finds a virus, run as many as you can. One can open a back door, and others can get in.
