He was a US Congressman from Ohio who is now serving time for corruption. Generally considered a gadfly, quite liberal and outspoken. I forget what the actual charges were but if memory serves he seemed pretty guilty. There did not seem not much to his defense. I dont know why he would have been railroaded, he was not taken very seriously to begin with. He was entertaining though...didn't bother me. At least he spoke what was on his mind, most politicians are so bland and condecending thaey are not even worth listening to.

Marks has written a book admitting to having been a hash smuggler in the ´70s and was imprisoned in the US for 7 years, charged with conspiracy and organised crime activities under RICO. He still maintains he never committed a crime on US soil or that any of his activities resulted in a crime in the US. His book =Mr. Nice= is a good, interesting read. He was extradited from Spain to face charges in a US court. The US were responible for transporting him and his possessions and, interestingly, *lost* his defence paperwork on the way.
