I think I've fixed the image comment stuff; seems to work OK now, so let me know if any issues, I haven't really tested it (and hacking php isn't my speciality)
I've changed most things to using SSL / https today. Things like viewing images, forum etc should give you a neat little padlock when browsing in chrome.
I don't know why the gallery doesn't. I don't see any non-https content in there. But whatever.
Either way, it's now secure to send me all your credit card information. Let me know if you see anything more broken than normal.
the 'new comment' icon indicator bubble thing shows up on pics that I have already seen the comments on...it won't go away even if I refresh..
can't find the button for the smileys
Editing comments is borked. When I edit it just sends me into a loop of no return, eg, the 1st comment posts and no editing is possible as it just shows the edited comment but never posts it.
Yeah, refresh will sort it, if you have further issues you might need to shift-refresh or delete cookies but it should be alright now.

Apparently I'm logged in for forums but haven't been able to log in to galleries for a few days. I'm able to add photos as anonymous but trying to comment on a photo as such brought up a message saying it was a hack attempt.

Okay, I just went to the gallery page from this forum after posting my last message and now I am logged in there as well. Weird stuff going on with the upgrade.
You could try deleting cookies for the site. Otherwise yeah just come to forum, log off and log on again.
The caching issue we had (which I think is now fixed) was well and truly messing up the login status etc. If you eg visit in incognito/private browsing/whatever mode and login I'm pretty confident that session will just work
Shift+refresh on the affected pages might help too. As far as hacking attempt etc, that'll be Cloudflare, our front end provider messing with that. I don't truly understand how we changed servers and the behaviour of caching completely changed to the point where we had to turn all page speedups / caching off on cloudflare.
