Okay guys, I've killed that whole shit 'missing pics' thread. DK and myself have had a gut full of all this bullshit that's been going on lately. As he said, all moderator access has been revoked.

The unfortunate side effect of this is it shows people really can't be trusted, even if they claim to have the site's best intentions at heart. We're simply too busy to moderate the sites, so that doesn't really leave us much choice on what we can do, does it? We're going to have to have a serious discussion about canning the whole fucking lot.

Personal threats of physical violence and the like are really not on. It's a disgusting and cowardly act to pull this kind of shit online. Thanks to those who didn't abuse and fuck up the system for their help with running the site. It's just a shame that people are simply too immature to be trusted with any degree of power over others.

you know what really pisses me off? i spent i don't know how much of my time chasing off the spammers in the forums and then have the rug yanked out from under me!
now in the time i have been absent, they have almost retaken the whole shebang.

I sincerely apologise to Pulse and Mr Klown. This site is YOUR creation and the communities input should add to it's merits, not detract from it. I hope you let her run wild for a while until you find the time or a solution but I think everyone would agree that shutdown would cause a ripple effect that could indeed destroy the entire universe.
In all my rants and raves, the only serious concern has been that one of the moderators was deleting images based on prejudice and a very narrow point of view. I tried to flush out that person or eliminate moderators altogether. My methods may be strange but they work.

Pulse and DK, I sincerely hope you guys don't nuke the whole shittin'-sherree, but I wouldn't blame you if you did. It would be very sad that once again in this world a good thing gets ruined by a few people that can't control themselves.

The problem is, now what do we do?

We appreciate all the hard work that everybody has put into the site, we truly do, but moderators are all meant to be on the site's side - not submitting to public flaming of each other, deleting incorrect things, etc.

The one main rule we set forth when we asked for help was: don't delete things just because somebody has pissed you off. And then moderators start doing it to each other. It's totally unacceptable.

There's no chance that either DK or myself are going to have the time required to dedicate to a project like this in any kind of realistic future. The site would've been gone a year or so ago without the help of the moderators.

What's left to do if we can't trust that people will help each other, and the site, rather than hindering all?

I know these are very broad comments, and 99.9% of what the mods did was absolutely fantastic - and as I said, the sites wouldn't even be here if it weren't for them, I don't want to sound unappreciative. But that 0.1% has really both hurt the site, and made us question why we're bothering to lose so much money every month on it (the servers cost a fortune).

I guess we can only wait and see

Personally i'd like to keep the site but i really only have time to check on it once maybe twice a day. With ths type of images we've had uploaded in the past this really isn't acceptable. The thought I have kicking around in my head would be that moderators be given back access but they would be limited in what they can do to the site and would have to agree on things. For example moderator #1 wants to delete image 239823, instead of having the power to remove the image he would just be able to place a vote for the image being removed. Once a % of moderators agree that image/comment should be removed then it would be. However this just means that instead of a moderator being able to clear out junk from the site it's going to take twice as many people to do the exact same task. So instead of having 3-4 selected moderators we'd need around 15.

The other thought is to get rid of the idea of a moderator and simply give more power to registered users. So that anyone is able to delete any image/post and once a certain amount of people agree it's removed. However the problem with this is that it would take alot of time for images to be cleared from the site. And sometimes images need to be removed ASAP (child porn etc).

So i'm really at a loss as to what can be done to keep this site kicking over.

May I suggest a couple things...
If you decide to add any new moderators, add them on one at a time so everyone can get an idea of how that person will function in that role. Instead of adding four at one time and having everyone question who is doing what...

also there is the idea that unregistered users should be limited on how many posts they can make per day... that could theoretically cut down on some of the spam or dogshit posts

it's a good idea for people to vote, but then people like beastie wouldn't have any pics left for us to flame him on.....:~} also the pics that should be immediately removed will get some "air time". the old system worked just fine except for......you know. no names are needed.juniors idea is a good starting point

the voting on pics to be deleted category worked for a bit, and i think was a great system.

We should actually make a magic 'kill all spam' button, getting the vast majority is really quite easy. Though that said, the asshats who do the spam will just find a way to defeat it if they know how we do it.

Ok i've had some more thoughts.. I like the 'purgatory idea'.. But i was also thinking that the site has had alot of culling and altho images still exist from ages ago that really shouldn't be on the site the main concern is new images/comments.. so why not just limit moderators to only be able to 'delete' stuff (it'd go into a purgatory group that only admins would be able to view, and a comment would automatically be added to the image about who moved it into this group and when) that's been posted in the last week..

However now I still have another problem. Finding moderators that are mature enough not to slander other moderators/users publically on the site.

Maybe i need to create a new forum that's only accessable by the moderators so they can sledge each other in private.

I'm finishing up my contract soon so will have a week or so before i start my next one so hopefully i'll be able to write all the code for this then.
