Looking at the comments about Cronulla Beach (Sydney) got me wondering where everyone is from.

State your name, City, State & Country

I am JWH Newcastle New South Wales Australia

Newcastle is about 1 1/2 hours north on Sydney on the coast for those from other parts of the world.

Thanks 90130

Someone commented a while back that this site started in Melbourne Australia and the +613 comes from the telephone area code.

Is this true?

Fairly obviously, Melbourne, Australia. Yes, it's true this site was named after Melbourne's dialling code (It's actually in the 'about' link at the bottom of the page). 61 is Australia, 3 (or 03 for Australians) is Melbourne. Sydney is +61-2, Brisbane +61-7 etc. Melbourne is +61-3.

Jackson, Tennessee, USA, aka in the area as God's country for he gave us some of everything. In effect, the city is located in the middle of a flood plain, on top of an active earthquake fault, at the end of a tornado ally. Our weather coverges from three directions on a regular basis: out of Canada, off the midwest plains, and off of the Gulf coast. This gives us some rather strange weather. I have on occasion seen it rain, sleet, and snow at one time--from three different directions. And believe it or not, in October of this year we actually had a tropical storm; rather amusing considering were about 200 miles inland. One of the often heard adages here is "if you don't like the weather, stick around, it will change."

It's pretty much the same in Melbourne. Not quite with the tornados and earthquake faults, but the city is renowned for 4 seasons in one day. Definitely during Winter, at least Summer has somewhat more reason to the way it works. We've got a similar saying around here. "If you don't like the weather, give it a minute". smiling smiley

It's nice to hear some things about other places. So far we've got Australia and the US - surely there's more people around here than that smiling smiley Speak up

NO, my hometown is Niigata city, Niigata pref. Now I live in Nagaoka.
Sapporo (Hokkaido) is in north than Niigata. So winter comes earlyer than Niigata and Nagaoka.

...But this year's winter of Niigata is too bad.
It'll be not "Happy white christmas"...will be "Very bad white out"!
Today's Niigata pref's condition was VERY BAD STRONG BLIZZARD WITH GREAT FAILURE! All Shinkansen and trains and bus and airplanes stopped.
It'll be again in tomorrow...

Hokkaido's winter is nice than Niigata! (but too cold than Niigata... ^ ^)
