Our pictures are now hosted on port 81 on our web server, whereas the rest of the site is on 80. Please ensure no firewall is blocking your access to port 81.

How about hosting them on Port 80 for those of us who can't open 81? Why the change?

The reason why is simple - server load. With image views in the hundreds of thousands a day, and now regularly seeing over 600 users online, even our new server is struggling to keep up at times.

So, as a stop gap measure we're running 2 web server programs on the same physical server. Apache, which builds the page you see (everything except the picture) which needs all the fancy options such as PHP and MySQL interoperability, and is all generated in realtime on the fly, and thttpd which is a very basic http server which is best at just pumping out raw data. This change has decreased server loads by 50%.

Because both programs cannot share the same port (80), and because this is only a test run, the basic server is running on port 81. If you're still reading after all that, and if we decide to keep this setup, then we will be able to run both on the same port, just on different IP addresses smiling smiley Bear with us for a few days.

I am getting the same issue, but can still see the pictures in preview from the menues on the left hand side of the screen. Also, if I click on the name of the uploader I can see the picture thumbnails. I just cant see the thumbnails in the gallery, or if I try and view a picture on its own.

If this is the same issue as others are having, it may help them keep track of new postings until you can get things sorted. If it is something else, have your techs got any suggestions?

17660: This is the same issue. I didn't change all referrences in the code to fetch images from thttpd (just the main ones). However now that you've reminded me I'll go do that. =\

Damn, at least I was able to see the preview for a while. 81 is not an option for me at this time from my work, hopefully you can shoot them back through 80 again.

The improvement to speed has been well worth the change to thttpd for static content, so I'll be bugging pulse over the coming days to give me another ip to host the images on.

You hear that pulse!
