Change the visual presentation of voting somehow to draw more attention to it. Somebody here with graphics design and advertising knowledge?

put a "most votes" category on the top list page.
and then give a weekly hooker delivery award out.

There is nothing indicating that the stars above the picture are to be used for voting. Change that and maybe increase the size of the stars a bit. Make it obvious and visually stand out a bit more. I bet that would help. If you really want to get aggressive about encouraging votes script in a nag box saying "Are you sure you want to leave this image without voting on it?" except that nobody would like that.

An image search would be kinda cool too.

Well maybe after you vote it takes you back to the gallery? That would be good.
But I'd still want the options to vote and go forward or back in time. Plus613 time that is.
If you voted and stayed on the same image, I'd be too tempted to write a macro and ruin it for everyone.

We only count 1 vote per user, what macro could you write?

I've just set both sites to redirect to the homepage if a 404 error is encountered - so please let me know if you notice anything unusual (especially like a broken/missing image taking you to the homepage.. not that there'd ever be any of them on the site, not something built as solidly as this).

I now need to move core DNS to the new server (or to one of the backup servers) and rebuild the old DB server to do something useful.

I'm not sure if I should split the sites (eg run porn from new server, and plus exclusively on the old server) or add the old server to the image farm & just use the new server for database.. Tricky.

I've used tineye and google image search but they don't find everything and miss things I know are on Plus. A built in search by image would be faster and easier. I know it's probably asking for too much but it's just a suggestion if it is feasible.

i'd like it to show who gives the votes when you click on "votes" where it shows the graph after 5 votes have been made. this ass wipe that gives everyone a 1 needs to be called out and humiliated, and i am just your guy to do it.

Good luck catching the weasel-dick. I'm sure the wankers could tell you who it is if they wanted to. They have the data, they know how I have voted. I'd kinda like to see which users and how they vote too. Not just to lynch the weasel-dick(s) but just out of curiosity. I don't think it would cross any godalmighty privacy rules either.

It's pretty easy to tell how the regulars vote by their homepage. If an image appears in their 'most hated images', they voted it 1 or 2. If it appears in 'favourite images' they voted it a 4 or 5. 3 doesn't show up in either if I recall.

Finding how anons vote is pretty much impossible, I'd have to dig through the database and even then I'd need to know the IP of a particular anon who votes on everything. Too much hassle.

As the image files got larger while I still had dialup I gave up on voting because the next photo would often be something I really didn't care to see but might take forever to load so I'd end up going back to the gallery page anyway. Though not blazing, the faster speed I have now lets me move pretty quickly through the voting process so I've resumed it for the most part.

Thanks, I didn't put that together in my mind, however it would still be nice to be able to see who voted how without going to everyone's page. I understand about the anons but couldn't you just show it was an anonymous vote anyway?

Since you can't click on the "x" to his stats I am guessing he's not actually registered that "name" as a user.

We used to have a 'image search' that would find similar images, to try and lessen the dupes. It was disabled i believe because people complained that they wanted to be able to upload dupes. Maybe I could bring it back.. it was alot of code but was a very fun project, I've always wanted a 'find me similar pics to this' so if you saw a car pic it would load a gallery of all the car pics on the site etc.. image tags have been another way to achieve this which has limited success.

As for voting it's all based on IP, each ip on the internet can vote on a single image once. If you vote again on the same image your vote is changed. That said if your logged in when you vote your username is also recorded and things like 'most hated/loved' on people's homepages are filled with these images.

pulse: doing a redirect on 404's to the homepage is ghey.. i had a awesome custom 404 page...[plus613.net] rocks your socks..

Yeah I know, and a 500 and 502 version. I don't remember my reasoning but I decided that redirecting to homepage was better.

Reincarnate it without the dupe post restriction.

How about the ability to remove or replace your own posted picture and also edit the title. That would help undo mistakes.

And fix the stupid "my comments" balloon shit when you go back 3 or 4 pages.
