I doubt size matters here at +613
Time is relative.

Well 10.1 meg doesn't work. There's no error message, it just doesn't work and returns to the add image dialog page. I'll try trimming it to 10MB and see.

9.74MB doesn't work.

8.66MB doesn't work.

5.61MB doesn't work.

3.08MB doesn't work.

Same thing happens for all those sizes. These are animated GIF files if that makes a difference.

Gifs fall over most of the time, so it's not just you.
Pulse managed this one...

Thanks for the info Woberto, I know the GIFs thread too PJ. I'd rather put it in the pic gallery so more people can see it because it's cool. Not a funny one, a nature one.

Yeah gifs just don't work well. And I think digger is right, pretty sure the video stuff was axed when we were having disk space and bandwidth issues. Possibly something we can look at putting back though.

So how come PJ can UL animated GIF of 11.3MB and I can't UL one of 9.47MB?

faster internets?

I don't get any timeout or error messages and I'm operating at consistent 5Mbs UL speed.

my internets are slow right now...

Right now I've got 13.3M dl and 4.9 ul. I don't think it is a speed issue then.

i can only download around 6", but i can upload the whole 12"

edit:
speed depends on several things

I know about network speed issues, Digger. I've spent very many years working with technology and networks.

I'm sure it isn't a speed issue. It is the file itself. It was converted from another video format to a GIF animation. There is something in it that this system won't accept even though applications will play it correctly as a GIF animation.

I think the issue is more with the tool we use for upload processing, rather than the size of the gif. It's pretty old, and I think just can't handle gifs that well - more useful for png/jpg.

I'll see if there's a newer version of it, but in the mean time gifs do work better in the animated gif thread, where it doesn't rely on our creaky old system smiling smiley

My e-peen is bigger than PJ's

That fits in with the symptoms too. Something about the file and the upload tool are not getting along for some reason. Thanks for looking at an update. I haven't used the animated gif thread yet other than to look at them. I'll try it eventually I suppose.

No, it wasn't worthy of a comment.

Odd glitch first thing this morning (here). New comments balloon not appearing on an image I recently posted ( [plus613.net] ) on the gallery page but did appear on the "my image comments" page.

I've seen the same thing happen before too.

The servers are bored and have become apathetic.

Yeah I think that's it. Normally at least one of them would've crashed by now

Worst one's uptime is 8 days 10 hours right now (pretty shocking actually)

It took about 6 minutes for an upload to appear in the gallery and another 3 minutes to be able to comment on it.

It's not ambiguous. Right to the point it is.

I dunno shit breaks here all the time. Frankly I'm surprised it runs most of the time. If you do notice really weird stuff though you can always email abuse, that goes straight to my phone normally so I'll see it much quicker than here.. smiling smiley

It wasn't really a concern, just bustin' your chops a little, pulse. No worries. We appreciate what your doing just by having the site.

In the subject field anything in quotes does not display rolling over the thumbnail. I'm sure it's been pointed out before and has less priority than IOTW.

Looks ok to me.

I can explain the quotes subject thingy.. it's a security feature, it strips things out it doesn't think should be there so as to not allow code injection into image comments and all that sort of jazz.

I did upgrade image magick too, but I don't tihnk it helped with animated gifs

ImageMagick 6.7.7-10 2014-03-06 - apparently latest version in the channel

So i'm back to tinkering with the site. Looking at the stats lately it seems we're getting a fairly large % of viewers browsing the site from mobile devices. When the code was last looked at mobile viewing wasn't something I ever thought of.

I made some changes to help people with smaller screens view images (removed side blocks). I'm looking at ways to have the images resize to fit the screen to speed up download times for people as well. Let me know if you guys run into any issues. Maybe this is the kick in the pants I need to change the html/css to be more responsive.

Or maybe i'll get bored after a couple of days efforts due to pulse's only input to change 'I don't like it'

Speaking of which pigfucker.. update IOTW..
