Well, I've noticed for some time that unpopular points of view (not so much unsavory imagery, and not so much by users) but mainly by one or two moderators has been tantamount to censorship here. That seriously damages the precept of both sites. In a world where (increasingly) only money can buy any sort of self-expression this site had something unique going for it that I think seems to be on the cusp of disappearing.

It now finally is no secret that George W. Bush (half of us knew it all along...) is a moron puppet backed by shrewd (but definitely not the same thing as wise or even intelligent) bunch of corrupt business people who duped a whole bunch of other easily fooled (by the same old "incestuous amplification" propaganda techniques), mostly undereducated, but otherwise well meaning people into voting for them. (Mostly from the southern US. They must've all failed history and slept through the Watergate hearings....) and don't understand that we separated Church and Government to keep the Church of England out of our business and politics out of our Churches. (Billy Graham agrees with me on this, btw.) It's the values that our elected officials should carry into their chambers, not the liturgical dogma, (which itself, written by human beings is rife with self-contradiction and self delusion, and is the defacto reason for the humanities to exist in the first place. This is not to say that they supplant religon. Rather, they BALANCE it.) This equilibrium has been badly damaged-it seems to me at least.

Now we (the US) are reaping the results of the institutional rewarding of patent stupidity (faith makes no demands for "facts", by definition) with only the most recent elections showing any scintilla of common sense. When Democrats do something stupid of their own making, I'm equally vitriolic, btw....

I'd hoped that our friends in Australia weren't going to copy our "Titanic" complete with the hole.....

Unpopular opinions have at least as much inherent value (and are as deserving of public strutiny) as any 'safe" opinion. Probably more. It's my belief that this "X" thing you've thought up is about to give your website the intellectual equivalent of a frontal labotomy.

The big problem in the US is the only time the news tells the truth is when it's labelled "fake news" on Cable TV Entertainment shows and the real news is obliterated by the twin chopping blocks of "RATINGS" (do I like the news I'm hearing? What I like must be the truth!) and its partner in crime, the shareholders of the for profit corporations that run "Newscorp" (Not just that one, but that's one of them) media outlets.

The Truth doesn't have too much of a chance in the US anymore. And apprarently not here too much either.

It's future may well be much fluffier and insubstantial. We shall all be the poorer for it.

Alas.....

RIP Plus613.........

Sincerest Regards,

Nobody in Particular

The X thing is simply another way for users to report to us any content that is already removed from the site. Beastility, child porn, defecation pics and racist pictures will never have a place here. No matter how much you complain about your 'freedoms' being violated by them not being allowed.

No images are automatically deleted, nor ever will be, it's simply a way for a number of users to be able to flag pics that as a administrator will help us keep the site running as easily as possible.

To live in a society you must have rules in place that makes the society livable for everbody, and that's why you'll never have a free society.

Hi DK.

If that's the whole truth then that's definitely a different deal. I've got no use for any of the stuff you mentioned. I just see these huge stretches of pages that disappear from time to time and wonder what happened.

I'm a big (if anonymous) fan of the site. (No really! I spent down time here for years.....) I do appreciate most of what I've read here even if I don't agree with all of it, and I understand that in a marketplace of ideas you have to be able to take as good as you give if the going gets contentious. I just see the high road sort being undertraveled.

Liberals aren't automatically bad and neither are Conservatives. During the last six years (well OK, twenty six) I've felt pretty disenfranchised. When I post I'm often accused of being this other member "A DC BEAST". I see some things of his that I agree with but I don't usually agree with the tone too much. A coherent exchange of ideas is more satisfying for me than an invitation to service someone in a manner that were we both live and in real time together in a room would probably make us both probably throw up.

My initial post was just to stake out concerns. I appreciate your answering them. I pop back in when opportunity allows. The nice thing about this forum (this has become more true as the last year or so has passed) is that often I arrive, look around and found that someone has already expressed a POV that while not precisely coincident with mine, it's close enough that I don't need to add much. I might sign up at some point, but I don't really see the advantage. My prose style alone probably makes me pretty spotable.....

Good Luck,

He of the Centrally Scrutinized Record Collection

P.S. Let me know when the Donate Button is working. I asked you about two years ago and you told me to forget about it because Paypal was screwing with you. I hope you're past all that now..........

Thanks for raising your concerns. This is what this forum is all about.

Unfortunately, no, at this stage the donate button still doesn't work - I'll look into fixing it tonight. To be honest it's never been a huge priority, as the site is run not for profit - though server costs are now in the several thousand $ per year region (this is the 4th server we've been on, and by far the biggest yet) we should probably look toward fixing the situation.

Anyway, again, thank you for your concerns. I won't add anything further as I feel DarkKlown has already adequately addressed them

Hi Quasi,

I'm a belated appreciator of Floyd. When most of it was new I was digging other stuff. (Mostly Jazz and 20th C. Classical, one reason I like Zappa so much...) Roger Waters definitely had the market cornered on righteous indignation there for a while. As deep as his one chop went,it certainly was used to good effect. I like "Amused to Death" myself. That's probably more relevant to this forum topic. Not lightweight fare to be sure. I always wanted to see a tour of them with the Beach Boys or the Doobies as an opening act. What a hysterical juxtapositon of narrative that would be:

"What the people need...is a way to make them smile.....Oh...... Never mind, There is no Dark Side of the Moon. Really....As a matter of fact, it's ALL Dark.....Thump,Thump...Thump,thump...Thump,thump....."

Thanks for the pint, I'll catch you on the flipside!
