And then there's this [republicbroadcasting.org]

Been wearin a mask nearly daily for months now as required to remain gainfully employed. They're hot, get soaked with perspiration in a matter of minutes making them viral magnets and according to some of the data I've read are totally ineffective regardless in a less than sterile environment in about 20 minutes and need to be ongoingly replaced at that interval, which no one does, so ...

The research I have seen suggests that masks are ineffective if the contagious people are the ones without the masks, but if they are the ones wearing the masks it is effective at stopping the spread. So Mrkim, having you wear a mask at work won't keep you safe, but it will keep others safe in the event you pick up Covid-19.

I agree wholeheartedly GAK, wearing a mask only protects the uninfected from becoming infected from others who are infected.

However, wearing masks by those who are not infected comes at a cost of multiple health risks associated with wearing the damned masks unnecessarily, as the article I linked clearly states.

So tell me how putting myself at risk of numerous unnecessary conditions and detrimental health concerns in needlessly wearing a mask when I am NOT infected is beneficial and to whom confused smiley

@alterego - firstly there is no need for name calling and personal attacks. Second, what are you trying to say by yelling 'BACTERIA!!!!!!!!!'? Neither Mrkim, nor I, mentioned bacteria, and neither did the article he referenced. Covid-19 is a virus, we know it is a virus, and we were discussing masks effectiveness at keeping people safe from Covid-19. Not everything in the comments has to relate directly to the image above it.

Yes, alterego, it shows bacteria and bacteria are very different from viruses, but it's an illustration of the effectiveness of wearing a mask. No need to get your panties in a bunch.
