Today Ford Racing Performance Parts announced that the 5.0L V8 engines from the
2013 Mustang Cobra Jet are now available for individual sale. “We are selling
a limited number of supercharged and naturally aspirated Cobra jet engines for
racers that want to build their own from a body-in-white or salvaged 2010-2013
Mustang,” Ford Racing’s Andrew Casselberry tells us. This isn’t the first
time the powerplant of the turn-key drag racer has been offered to customers, as
the previous 5.4L versions have been listed in the FRPP catalog as well.
Available in both supercharged and naturally aspirated versions, the 2013 Cobra
Jet engines come fully dressed and are hand-assembled on the same line as the
production engines at Ford’s Romeo Engine Plant. Using the 5.0L aluminum block
as a base, both motors feature Manley forged H-beam connecting rods, Mahle
forged pistons, Boss 302 CNC ported heads and a precision balanced forged
crankshaft with an ATI SFI approved damper. The naturally aspirated engine gets
a Ford Racing Cobra Jet intake manifold with 123mm MAF housing and SCJ throttle
body while the forced induction version is fitted with a 2.9L Whipple
supercharger system with a 10-rib belt drive.
Pricing for the 2013 Cobra Jet engines is listed at $17,495.00 for the naturally
aspirated version, part #M-6000-CJ13, and $24,995.00 for the supercharged
version, part #M-6000-SCJ13.
