This just shows how low society has fallen. 'Contemporary' art is about a fool
and his money: a group of people in the art world come together, create a
social structure that locks out outsiders, sells cheaply produced 'art' to
people who can wait for it to 'gain value', then donate it to an art gallery as
a tax write-off.
Desperate social climbers see the social structure and buy 'art' to get in, only
to realise there's nothing in it - they're not introduced to anyone representing
wealth, power or influence. The picture above is of someone paying $10 Million
for the 'right' to tape a banana on a wall and call it a given name - that's
trying to rapid buy your way up the social structure, that has... nothing in
it...

"Warhol's renowned signature style, defined by his fascination with
consumer culture, showcases mundane objects as primary subjects, such as the
banana, to symbolize the rise in mass production and distribution during his
time."
Analysis:
Andy Warhol's Banana, 1967
So in a way this guy was ripping off Warhol.

If he even heard of Warhol. Or attributed any significance to him. I
wouldn't, but I live in a different country.
