Hate to bust anyones bubble but when I was in Detroit waaay back in '77 it was
already a huge shit hole. My job took me all over Detroit and the surrounding
'burbs. Detroit proper was the worst but the burbs were only slightly better.
In Detroit you'd often encounter block after block of nothing but boarded up
buildings and there were huge segments of what had once been thriving middle and
upper middle class neighbor hoods where then sparsely spread out clapped out
homes with burned out or just simply decaying homes were the most common
sights.
Most of the people I met lucky enough to still have jobs after the steep decline
of the auto industry worked in some sort of support role to what was left of the
Big 3s struggling business model or were livin off the backs of their fellow
citizens through some sort of govt program or by outright theft or the drug
trade
