Me too. It's from a site called deepdreamgenerator. Anyone can type a description and an image is made. Trouble is, a lot of people don't have the brains to know they're not artistic, so keep the the best rated lists.

One more thing: you said once this site only puts 17kb in your bandwith, apart from the image. That site easily logs 50mg, without opening any image.

Yep that's about right. I just had a check, there's about 29KB of HTML code on this image/page; the image itself is 372KB. And that 29KB is served compressed.

There's a bit more stuff by the time it loads some external CSS; but your browser only downloads that once, eg we use a tool called Bootstrap and Font Awesome which does some of the heavy lifting for us. Once it's downloaded those CSS files though it's smooth sailing. Also, you may already have it cached from other websites.

They also don't download from my servers, so costs me no bandwidth.

After that, there's 3 tiers of caching involved; from the actual core webservers which host the image, there's caching proxies that sit in front of that to reduce back end requests; then a caching pool that sit in front of them. And THEN we use Cloudflare for global traffic direction and security, which ALSO does image/CSS/etc caching.

One day I'll draw up a diagram of it all. It's especially complicated now there's multiple international endpoints into the site. The site always was a learning tool for a few of us.

I've no issue with what you've said, but deepdreamgenerator... watch that bandwidth!

One site I won't be going back to is [hintergrundbild.org]

The java scripts are not compatible with the modem we have (Liberal party's NBN). It's not the only site. One thing I notice is the small file size for the quality of resolution, at least in the later photos. Photos from other sites can be 3x the size. .jpg2 perhaps?

Six months later and still one of the best photos on here.
