Years ago most of the Melbourne scene were. That's where the site got its name, from a chat channel full of hackers/etc.

I've met him a couple of times. I was never impressed.

Would you have been more impressed if, instead of posting vague philosophy no one has heard of, whilst repositioning satellites, he had bombarded them into Washington and said nothing?

I met him well before his attempts for world fame and martyrdom.

It's probably easier to categorize him as a wanker.
