I definitely would not want to be on the receiving end of a Warthog. That baby
is a tank killer among other things.

I read an article that said it was actually a plane built as a flying platform
for its cannon, essentially that it was built around the cannon

And to think prior to Desert Storm they had planned to scrap these awesome
planes, that would have been a shame.
If I were in charge of leading an offensive on an enemy I'd send in the hot rods
to take out as much AA as possible then send in waves of these suckers, followed
by tanks, armored vehicles and infantry to mop up what was left after about
24hrs worth of bombardment by the A-10s

I don't think there is a single war-plane that I would like to be facing down,
but these would be near the top of that long list.

Warthog is a term of endearment by the pilots who fly 'em and the crews who
maintain them.
Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II is the official moniker.
