you must work your 401, split it up into 3 different, move it around and
around. if you let it run itself, you will lose your ass every time, surprise
surprise, surprise. i do give stock market/401k management lessons.
lesson #1: buy gold and silver bullion coins and put them in your safe (do not
touch them or they devalue quick)

I've been thinking about gold. How and where do I find a reputable dealer? Not
that I really have anything to invest at the moment but I expect to bounce back
at some point; can't keep a good man down and, judging by mine receding
hairline, a good man always comes out out on top.

never buy them online (they will charge a premium or sell them at the highest
recent market closing price. find a coin dealer near you that sells them and
keeps track of the price by the minute. monitor the ups and rare dows for a week
or 2 and you'll see the trends. also do not buy when a company 401k's is about
to toss down, this takes some research)
