If you ever get the chance to see Buster Keaton's movie "The General" which feature's one of these, it's worth the time. The guy was a physical comedy genius.

It's amazing to me the advancements made in metallurgy in 100yrs or so. A cannon capable of firing way larger projectiles is nowhere near the size of the barrel on that thing today ... and with much greater accuracy too smileys with beer
