Some of you have probably never heard of the times when those doors were opened just a little further out and those kids would jump out to run onto the beach and instantly sink to the bottom of the sea... all that weight on their backs plus boots = no swimming allowed!

There were also plenty of 'em who were cut to ribbons by machine gun fire as soon as the door dropped down and lots more soldiers who were forced to jump or climb over their dead buddies just to get outta the landing craft and head to the beach.

All in all I'd say these were indeed very brave men who did the best they could when handed a particularly shitty end of the stick. I wish I could say I would be so brave if ever in such a pair of boots but never having been thrown into such a situation ... I can only wonder.
