I think conspiracy theories are so numerous and popular now because we're the
first couple of generations raised with movies and TV shows that relied heavily
on them as the main plot line as if it was reality. The more people that would
be needed to successfully carry out a conspiracy, the less likely it is. Anyone
who's ever managed groups of people knows how hard it can be to keep everyone on
task for extended periods if they're left to their own devices. How do you
recruit a large number of co-conspirators without eventually giving the show
away to a whistleblower? It becomes increasingly risky with each person you try
to bring on board. People love to talk, to brag, which is also why I've never
believed that Trump colluded with Putin; Trump is a braggart and loudmouth, he's
only someone that Putin could rely on to create chaos that might be capitalized
on.
