There are some suburbs like that still left in Australia BUT you can't drive down the streets because of parked cars.
For example, in the picture above wee see one car but these days 20-30 would be visible in the same photo.

Same place today. At the very end of the street is a beach on the Gulf of Mexico hence the sidewalk in the divider in both photos and parking along the divider. Naples is a very wealthy town.
