About 40 years ago I was working on the roof of a house in Englewood, Florida when a fighter jet came screaming in at low altitude right overhead from the Gulf of Mexico. The sudden noise and nearness sent chills right up my spine.

Fighter jets always surprise me, I think they're amazing vehicles (but wouldn't ever want to be on the wrong side of one).

I've only ever seen one on a display, but you know.. standing there, dead silent, all of a sudden there's the roar of the plane and it's already gone past before you even heard it. It's just the exact opposite of eg a passenger jet where you can hear it coming for ages.
