I recently drove from Parkes to Port Augusta
(on top secret CSIRO business)
and feral goats are almost in plague proportions.
Zero kangaroo or wallaby road kill, just goats.
I had to come to a complete stop on several occasions to avoid 'em.
Fucken GOATS!!!

We got hit by a kangaroo in an Uber a few weeks ago. Never seen a street goat.
revert works for CSIRO these days. So you know they're jerks.

My pickup is an animal magnet. In this last year it bagged a nice buck w/a big
rack while also taking out the grill and pass side headlight on the truck ... an
adding a nice dent to the cab. Then about 2 months later it got about a 300lb.
hog which destroyed the front bumper.
Both accidents happened about 1/2 mile apart on a lonely stretch of road between
my best friends house and the casa at night. Since then (when traffic allows) I
drive right down the center of the road along that stretch of road so I have the
best chance to avoid the wildlife

When a sheep sees a wire, it sees a barrier. A goat sees a challenge. When we
had a mohair goat farm, I couldn't count the number of ferals I shot just to get
rid of them. I tanned leather and yes I ate goat meat (chevon), but most of it
went to waste.
Years later the export market for goats meant people made thousands after tax
catching and selling them alive. Now that market has bottomed and the parks
people in NSW are begging everyone to not shoot them as they keep the
undergrowth down - summer is fire season here. Well, decades ago farmers were
allowed to graze cattle in NSW parks for the same purpose and did very well.
The worst of Australia's bush fires have happened since that stopped. Why not
go back to that?

Nobody is begging for goats, except maybe pulse.
Let me help you school yourself.
How many native Aussie animals have hoofs?
As for bushfires, only certain terrains can survive hooved animals.
And goats come last... Get donkeys.
There is a great ABC or SBS doco on this place [
bio4climate.org]
The Kimberly maybe, NSW no way.
Hooved animals destroy Aussie grasses and prevent regrowth.
Hooved animals trample fragile creeks and in particular burrows of small
marsupials.
Hooved animals in the wild should all be culled but only America has enough
bullets to do the job.

I understand what happens to fragile soils but not all Australia, and not all
NSW, is fragile soil. I have been places where hoofed animals don't do any
damage. However, a wiping out once and for all, of rabbits, deer and feral
pigs would do wonders.
The real problem is people who spend their lives in the cities and imagine they
know better than those who don't. Anyone whose idea of nature is a domesticated
park, national or state recreation area, should learn some manners.
