It's sad how far Mercedes has fallen. I saw a dismantled 30 year old power
steering of theirs in the late 80's. It still had the machining marks, was hand
measured and fitted. I don't mind saying I was impressed. I rode in so many in
the 80's and 90's I decided I wouldn't mind owning one. You couldn't give me a
modern one for free. Apart from the 6 cylinder engine everyone raves about, the
same goes for Beamers. Both companies have gone so uniformly bad there has to
be a connection.
In that space comes Toyota (Landcruiser and the Yaris 4WD they sell in
Australia, Lexus and perhaps they'll ship us new Centurys), IENOS (if they fix
the teething troubles) and Genesis. Anyone know any others?

I wholeheartedly agree, but didn't stop me buying a 2nd; it WILL be my last
though.
I traded our 2016 in 2022 for a new one; the build quality has definitely gone
down even in just 1 generation. It's still a fun car though, and the engine IS
great. The problem was paying the COVID/car import shortage tax. Though it
helped that I sold our old one for $10K less than we paid for it new, 6 years
later for the same reason

Never crossed my mind to own a Mercedes or a Beemer. Prefer to build my own
cheap toys and beat 'em to death by choice. Least that way I'm sure of what I'm
getting and their fate is always assured

Rover is another good one - but for the price of spare parts.

From the Rover camp (kinda), I've always wanted a TVR. A Tuscan S or a Sagaris.
Would be no point having one here though. Maintenance would be a nightmare I
think. At least a Chimaera or Griffith would be a bit easier, as it's a pure
Rover V8. But the newer ones would be impossible to source parts. Or at least
incredibly expensive.
As for the Merc, it's mostly my wife's car, she commutes to work and I rarely
drive. But it's a fun car to blast when I do. I dunno what the next will be; I
seriously considered a Model 3, there was just something I didn't like about it.
Next will
almost certainly be electric. I just don't know what type.
That said, the new Toyota MR2 looks like fun, and there's rumours of a new
Celica too. If they made something like this.... [

About 35 years ago I drove an El Camino at work with the 4.3. That thing would
scoot but had to watch out for the back end breaking loose on wet roads. Before
that they had me in an S10 Blazer 4x4 that I liked and it fit me well but it had
that lame V6, 2.8 I think.
