We have plenty of gun laws, and this guy broke them...so what good are
laws?
Don't forget, murder is illegal as well...
Rabbit Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 05:28AM
Fuck the gun laws. Take away the guns and no one can fire them.
And for those wanting guns to defend themselves, use capsicum spray instead.
You can't murder people with that shit.
And if you still don't like that, then move to another country where stuff like
this doesn't happen so often, if at all.
Only in America, again.
pulse Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 05:32AM
Queue "guns don't kill people" and "criminals will still get
guns" response.
You're wasting your time, it'll keep happening, because America allows it to.
Rabbit Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 08:43AM
And queue the "only America can fix America" and "Yes we
can" responses because they can.
It's the Repulicunts who have constantly blocked changes to the constitution,
indirectly causing ALL of these gun related mass killings
because they need the NRA's vote to stay powerful.
You don't need guns for mass murder, you can use trucks, airplanes or a van full
of fertilizer, just ask the towel heads and Timothy McVeigh
but it's one huge mothafuckin' step in the right direction. You can't pull a
trigger if there's no trigger to pull.
There will always be the criminal element but remember this guy wasn't a
criminal. Reducing the risk is better than not changing anything at all.
quasi Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 09:25AM
Short of a magic wand that will make them all disappear guns are here to stay
in this country because of the sheer number of them out there already.
Regardless of what other laws are passed these things will continue to happen.
In this case, a wealthy guy who for whatever reason flipped out, no amount of
laws would have made a difference, he could have bought whatever he wanted.
rabbit Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 11:03AM
Yes Quasi and for that very reason alone, it's not going to do any further
damage to just ban the fucking things altogether,
making them all illegal and put in place some seriously harsh penalties other
than sending these guys to jail, filling up an
already overloaded prison system. Not doing anything is just as criminal as the
act we all just witnessed, again.
There's no perfect answer for this, as this bloke killed himself anyway but some
extreme measures need to be put into action
to at least have a chance of deterring some of these guys. At least have a go.
quasi Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 11:11AM
Sorry, I'm not in favor of criminalizing the millions of law abiding citizens
like me who own guns and do no harm. Look how well banning drugs has worked out.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: October 04, 2017 12:29PM
How are you going to get guns from gangs who all have them and all the
survivalists who have them just to mention a couple? Would you have the
military go door to door breaking them down and searching, killing anyone who
objects? Exactly who is it that obeys laws. Out of all the hundreds of
millions of guns owned in this country how many of them have been uses for mass
murder? In the past 20 years gun ownership has doubled but murders have dropped
by about half. If we change the 2nd amendment, how long before the 1st
amendment gets repealed? Do you want to set Trump up as a dictator never to be
voted out, you really like him that much?

"Sorry, I'm not in favor of criminalizing the millions of law abiding

Again Quasi, exactly my point. It hasn't gone far enough. Dissolve the NRA and
ban civilians from owning firearms and you won't need to be one of the millions
of law abiding citizens who need to own firearms. How can you guarantee that you
won't flip out in the future and go on a shooting spree? " I don't want to
give people that kind of convenience any longer. If you don't have the guns, you
can't fire them. Sure, you could use something else but it sure as shit won't be
as convenient as a firearm.
Also you may not have been paying attention to how other countries are dealing
with their drug problems but as much as everyone is disagreeing with the
"dictatorship" style of the Filipino president - he's got everyone
who's against illicit drugs on his side and the illegal drug industry is dying,
along with all the dealers from the top to the bottom. It's an extremely
aggressive way of dealing with the problem BUT HE IS DEALING WITH IT! America
has to do the same if it's going to avoid self imploding.
Whether you like Jimmy Kimmel or not - he is right on the money;
“The Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, the Speaker of the House, Paul
Ryan, a number of other lawmakers who won’t do anything about this because the
N.R.A. has their balls in a money clip, also sent their thoughts and their
prayers today. Which is good. They should be praying. They should be praying for
God to forgive them for letting the gun lobby run this country.”
How sad it is when a comedian has to be the one to tell Americas political truth
- The real State of the Nation speech came from a late night compare. God help
us all.

That's kind of where I was trying to direct the conversation, "Take
away". That would mean that the government would be taking away the
firearms. That is why the 2nd Amendment exists. Don't forget why we separated
from the King. We were being taxed to pay off one of England's wars. We
didn't like that much.
And when we pushed back the King enforced the tax with troops. Tyranny. The
2nd Amendment is not about hunting rifles. It's about that we've been there and
were not going back.
I suppose that rabbit would prefer that we did the same thing that Europe did.
Because no one uses weapons to murder the masses there.
Here's a paper on fixing mass shootings:

people just throw out cherry picked figures. But, knowing nothing is worse.

There is only one way to eliminate all guns in the US and there is no such thing
as magic. A buyback would not get all guns owned by everyone. Do you propose
that we use our military to go to every house kick the door down and search for
them killing everyone who objects? Do you understand what all this talk of
taking guns does to the gun industry? The last time this happened gun ownership
doubled and by the way in the last 20 years murders have dropped by about half.
I guess thinking isn't a skill those on the left know how to exorcise.

why do people insist on using stats from their country with ridiculous gun
control laws?
let's use your logic IN THE UNITED STATES.....name the murder capital cities in
the U.S. now check their gun laws, they have the largest murder rates in the
country. gun control has never worked here, and it never will, so don't bother
regurgitating stats that have absolutely nothing to do with the U.S.
what works in Australia (which does not have extremely invasive foreign and
domestic laws and policies) will not work in....say New Zealand or any other
country, it's plain and simple disinformation.

Sure. It's called shutting the gate after the horse has bolted.
rabbit Report This Comment Date: October 06, 2017 06:16AM
For those who say that the gun control "logic" of other countries
won't work in the US can't actually say that.
Because the US government has never tried it in the first place - ever - so you
speak an unfounded truth.
Try it first. At least give it some kind of a go. Saying "Banning guns will
never work" is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Because you don't actually know that. Australia is still the record holder for
the biggest one off shooting massacre in the world (Port Arthur 1996)
After which, the government banned the guns and guess what? Haven't had one
since. Other shit has happened since but no mass shootings.
All I'm saying is other governments have tried many different ways of dealing
with it whereas the US, to date, has not. Hence, the mass shootings keep
happening.
What's happening with gun control in the US affects us all around the world.
Stopping the copycat behavior means going to the source of the problem.
As I said before - You can't pull the trigger if there's no trigger to pull.
We're talking harm minimization here. Not a complete fix cause that will never
happen.
jgoins Report This Comment Date: October 06, 2017 11:39AM
We don't try it here for a very good reason, we have a constitution that
protects the people. If we tried to ban guns then we would also have to change
the search and seizure laws and remove free speech as well. I do know there are
some here who want to remove the entire constitution but fortunately they are in
the minority. The rest of the world has no right to dictate to us what our laws
should be.
Seeing as how the police can't do anything to get rid of inner city gangs, how
are they going to remove their guns? What about all the survivalist with their
compounds and arsenals? What about the average Joe who owns a gun but objects
to giving it up, do we just break his door down, kill him and take his gun? The
last time something like this happened that started the ban guns talk it
increased gun sales dramatically, I really wish I was in gun sales right now I
would be getting rich.

does that same logic not apply to you and your country's laws?
take a look at Sweden. they make it mandatory to have a gun and look at their
murder rate......lowest in the world, so by your own logic, you are wrong.
