Add CDs, DVDs and Blurays to this list pretty soon.
Desktop PCs, cable TV, newspapers..
What else?

Storage still has to be tangible. The cloud is great but a USB flash memory is
just the right size to not lose (although I have left many in clients servers
and only remembered when I was in the departure lounge...). So the USB might be
with us for a while, unless apple get their way...

I'd like to backup my NAS to something cloudish, but
a) It's too expensive
b) My ADSL upload is too slow.
Give me my giggerbitz.

Yeah I'm workin on 20TBs these days so "the cloud" is def outta the
picture for me. Call me paranoid but I don't really see that as a
secure/completely private method of storage anyway, even if it was workable

Same; 20TB RAID5 at the moment (16 usable, 15 used).
Been looking lately at either adding an expansion unit or simply replacing it
and using 8TB drives. It seems to be every couple of years for me I chuck my old
NAS and get a new one.. must be due

In the process of revampin my equipment lately. Waitin on a new Intel i7 4790K
(4 dual threaded cores @ 4gigs Woohoo!) to replace my aging i7 and drop it into
my Antec Skeleton that's been gatherin dust for awhile now to function as my LR
machine. Even sprung for a bad boy Noctua dual fan CPU cooler and 16gigs of
DDR3. Then there's a 4TB external for mobile file shenanigans. Gonna use a new
240gig SSD for the OS drive and 'spect that coupled w/the new proc and RAM
should make it a screamin meanie
For my server it's got all new Noctua fans to replace the stockers in the Antec
1200 case. It's loaded up w/4-4TB drives (a tad over 13 used). It's gettin the
old 2.93gig i7 and mobo from the Antec 900 machine plus an Intel 120gig SSD for
its OS drive. Yeah, I know, that's kinda like towin a boat w/a 767, but WTH, I
ain't chunkin it out, just kinda puttin it out to pasture and it'll be doin
double duty as my BR machine..
Then No1 grandson's gonna get a 2.66gig i7 machine for Christmas built outta
various left overs I have layin around w/another 120gig Intel SSD for it's OS
drive, all slapped into the old 900 case. The kid'll have a waaay better mosheen
than he needs, but he is No1 grandson, so ....
Even at 7yrs old those 4 core/dual threaded i7s are still plenty quick and have
been dead nutz dependable. Figure by the time I get tired of the new proc for
my main machine maybe they'll have a quantum leap in cores and proc speeds and
have come down enough to make 'em reasonable
PS: This is the point where pulse usually regales us w/details of his latest
rig, which makes my stuff sound like some crap from around 1020 BC. Outta
curiosity, whatcha runnin these days dude?
