As far as I can see it's a Polo. I got one myself. I Denmark where I live most
cars are small due to the fact that we pay 180 % in tax on top of resellers
price. If you live in USA you can multiply the price of your car by 2,8, then
you would know how much I should pay for your car if I bought it in Denmark. You
would also know why we drive small cars.

It also says Polo on the front of it.
And European petrol costs twice as much as in the US hence the small cars. At
least in Australia it's only 1.5x ..

My 92 Laser was a whoppin $400 so I promptly went out the next week and plopped
$520 worth of tires on it after spendin $150 or so on timing belt parts to it to
get it goin again
After a (too) long hiatus from the world of HP I've restarted my 2.4
Mitsu/Hyundai engine program, and as all things Texan, the build list is Big and
Ambitious! Have been doin buttloads of research and snaggin bargains on parts
here and there, but the shortblock should hit the machine shop within the next
month .... Woohoo!!
Plannin on between 300-500 smooth streetable hp in turbo trim, but I'm gonna
start out with an NA build and tweak that set up 1st so I can get a good feel of
what the the engine profile "likes" 1st.
The actual parts and varied gizmos and processes to be incorporated into this
build would cover several Loooong paragraphs but I will at least be slingin some
cash down south to some of the Aussie folks by investin in a tricked out Davies
Craig electric water pump set up.
BTW, thankfully our gas has been doin a nose dive lately and is at $1.75 for 87
octane currently and the e85 I plan on usin in the new engine is at $1.39.
Had to give up on the Polos PJ, make my man-teats look too damned big!

You talk about $1.39 and I think "oh so it's about the same as here
then"; except our $1.39 is for a litre and yours is presumably for a
gallon, which is about 4 litres.
Anyway sounds like an interesting project.
I miss my Supra

Really need to get a decent car. We have 2 that I
hate at the moment. Considering trading both for maybe a VW Golf or something
but even that's not a great car, it's just transport.
I'd like the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ (or Scion FR-S for you strange people, wtf is
a Scion?), that looks like a fun toy for a weekend. A mate bought an old 911
recently, have been vaguely tempted to do the same.. I dunno. I want reliable,
but I want fun.

Yeah, thankfully that is per gallon pricing. That puts ya'lls at around $6? Oh
my!
I hear some gear heads wax nostalgic about the 60s as the "Golden Age"
of cars, but to me, that is today.
Todays cars take very little ongoing maintenance, are far more fuel efficient
and jam packed w/creature comforts compared to the leviathans that were rollin
around back then.
I kinda like the looks of the new Scion, very testosteronish lookin. Though I
have no idea how they perform, at least bein Toyota based, they should be good
cars.
I'd opt for a new Nissan Z over an old Porsche, but that's just me. I have heard
stories of ridiculous maintenace procedures/costs for even the simple stuff
w/Porsches.

Every job on a Porsche is engine out. That's not a problem for a good mechanic
but it takes time and time is money.

I certainly agree the heyday of cars was definitely not the 60s/70s; huge, ugly
fuel guzzlers with zero handling.. though I know it's only important to be able
to go fast in a straight line (or in a very large circle) in America...
I definitely want handling, it's more important than out and out speed. I've had
enough speeding fines over the years, really don't need any more. They're so
fucking expensive here too; eg it's $190 for 0-10km/h over the limit (so you
could be doing 1mph over the speed limit, $190 fine). But a fun car to drive..
big tick on that.
I agree about maintenance costs and hassle of 911s. The 996 or maybe 997 is
probably not so bad, but doesn't quite fit the definition of "old 911"
either (I know the 996 is late 90s but it's still "more or less"
current shape). The Supra I don't have any real interest in anymore, they've
become so cheap they're just driven by dickheads these days. The days of the
Japanese moderately priced supercars ended in the 90s/early 00s. Most cars these
days seem generic and bland, and I don't want to pay the cash for a fun toy like
an M3 or similar.
That said, I have a 5 year old car that's done 22,000km (~14k miles) and a 3
year old car that's done 10,000km, myself and my wife drive both.. so in 5
years, 2 cars have done about 32,000km. It's hard to justify a weekend toy when
you don't really drive

Oh hell yeah man, right there with ya on handling buddy, and BTW, some of us
here much prefer road racing over the straight line or oval track stuff. Haddn
made it there yet but I'm def gonna make a concerted effort to make it to the
F-1 race down by Austin next year.
There's some sweet hilly and curvy roads out in the country around here and I'm
really lookin forward to makin some "spirited" runs through there once
my car is finished.
Never been nailed for less than 15 over the limit but these days gettin one for
25 over carries some serious consequences, like a free ride to the pokey and
your wheeled toy gettin impounded, then stiff fines/legal fees. The real
nightmare comes if you're busted for street racin as the above scenario is then
followed by them auctioning off your car!
Suffice to say that if I was ever to find myself in that scenario the fuckers
will hafta earn their bacon 'cause I would NOT be just pullin over and handin
'em the keys, no way. With a great handling car w/AWD and 4 wheel discs, coupled
with enough power to easily put a lotta distance between myself and Jon E Law,
that's exactly what I'd be doin. Fuck 'em and feed 'em fisheads!
Hey man, ever considered one of those cool lil tricked out 3 wheelers they're
makin these days? They look like they'd be a blast and even an otherwise blase'
trip to the store could become an adventure when sittin that low to the ground
with the wind in your face appeal just kinda like a bonus :>P
Though I don't tack on anything like the mileage of some folks here, with drivin
as an integral part of my job, I've already driven over 22k miles so far this
year just for work, or at least so says my GPS. Conversely, I bet I haddn put 3k
on my pickup in the last year though, so I kinda get what you're sayin.
