You're a lucky boy, I'd never let you drive my Peterbilt.

gauge showed just below a quarter...which the right side tank had, left side
went empty...one of our company trucks went by, I got him on the radio but he
said he didn't have a hose so couldn't help and he didn't stop..couldn't believe
it, sure not like how it used to be with drivers helping each other out...was
only 8 miles out of town ffs

I'm sorry but I'm a little confused. What is up with the fuel gauge and tanks?
Does the gauge only show one tank or the other and not the combined levels? If
one tank still had 1/4 tank then why did you run out of fuel?

some trucks (frieghtliners et al) with two tanks only show on the gauge what is
in one tank, there is a crossover line that connects the two tanks so
theoretically the levels will be the same, assuming you are on relatively flat
ground...
the truck above is a Peterbilt model 379 and every one of them that I've driven
has had two tanks, one fuel gauge, and a three-position switch on the dash to
show either the left, right, or avg of the two...on this truck there is
something wrong somewhere, the switch or idk, but only shows me the right side
tank...however since I have the ability to physically remove the fuel caps and
peer inside with a flashlight it is ultimately my fault it happened...
I've driven a couple of different Volvos and they have a visual and audible
alarm when you get below a quarter tank...that makes a lot of sense to me...

also, it was actually relatively easy to get it going once I had fuel in the
tank, just sprayed a bunch of ether into the breather while cranking the engine
until it started...I've seen other trucks run dry and take a lot more effort to
get them going again, worst I saw was a Detroit, had to use a special pump to
prime the system and about a whole can of ether..

I thought something like that but wasn't sure. I hope the owner gets that
fixed.
