Cool idea but I wonder really how much cable is inside that spool. I can't
imagine much more than say 3 floors... 4 tops.

We know that the sum of forces acting on m is T – mg which is equal to ma.
Therefore, T = m(g – a).

It would work fine at most any length, just put the wire in the wall unit, not
in the hand unit.
