There are more fat people in Oregon than anywhere I've ever been.

Nope, sorry but Mississippi is and has been the fattest state for a while. They
also have the highest illiteracy, highest infant mortality, and just about every

The skinniest countries are the hungriest countries. It has nothing to do with
will power it is simply abundance, if Americans were starving like so many other
countries in this list we would be at the bottom of it as well. We may be there
before long but until then I will continue to eat.
Seeker Report This Comment Date: May 06, 2012 04:41PM
You are so wrong jgoins. It's a question of culture and habits. Countries like
Sweden and Norway and Denmark (where I live) are rich countries. The average
person living in these countries is much richer than the average American.
In the countries mentioned it is out of fashion to be fat, and pupils are tought
about dietary habits in school. Healthy food is a big issue here.
I live in the center of Copenhagen, and here you se everybody riding a bike and
in the evening most people exercise.
We have got the time and energy - probably because we are not poor.
Generally rich people don't tend to be fat. They can afford healthy food and
perhaps they do not need to eat for comfort as much as poor people.

Heheh. JG is usually wrong about something. Kim obviously saw his reflection in
the strip mall windows and that was a good joke, in case nobody else got it.
Students are taught in the US about health and diet too and that has been more
of a focus in recent times. You are absolutely correct Seeker, it is about
customs and more than anything what a person learns from their family and
friends (same thing really). Schooling can only penetrate so far. It's better
than nothing though. You can try to educate people till you're blue in the face
but they inevitably will gravitate to what they are most accustomed to despite
facts, figures and education. Do not try to take away bacon from Woberto or hot
peppers from Kim or beer from everyone else. At least peppers are medicinal.
Well, so is beer for that matter... but it is fattening.
Mrkim Report This Comment Date: May 06, 2012 05:46PM
Reachin for my peppers and you'll draw back a nub
I just created my newest favorite snack: Chipless Nachos
Take peppers (your choice of faves), cut into strips and place on a cookie sheet
in the oven (or save juice and use the toaster oven) and broil with insides
facing up for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Turn 'em over to finish broiling the
skin sides for another 5-7 minutes till they're kinda dried out. Cover with your
favorite shredded cheese, sprinkle with crushed red or black pepper and a dash
of seasoned salt & pop back in until the cheese browns.
These fuckers are yummmy and hit the spot

BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: May 06, 2012 06:08PM
Most ovens just have a broil setting that turns on the upper burner on
constantly with no temp control and run from around 500-550f. I like peppers ok
but it ain't religion to me.
Mrkim Report This Comment Date: May 06, 2012 06:56PM
Another good reason to save the electricity and use a much more efficient
toaster oven anyway.

Has anyone ever checked the prices of "healthy" foods? It is much
cheaper to eat ground beef than it is to eat anything else. When one is on a
fixed income grocery shopping is all about cheaper choices not what is
fattening. The only thing lower income people can to is reduce the amount of
intake which I have done but when you are using every minute trying to find the
money to survive it is difficult to get in an exorcise regime to help. Granted
some in the US are just lazy but a large part of us are just trying to survive
and are not overly concerned about being overweight.

When my father was born in 1908 the average life expectancy for a man was about
47 years. We've added 30 years to that and he actually lived to the age of 80.
Maybe this is yet another way of nature trying to correct something we've
fiddled around with.

It never ceases to amaze how full of shit some people can be. I think that's
part of what keeps me here. Hamburger is neither cheap nor unhealthy. Remember
the balanced meal thing? Didn't anyone pay attention in health classes?

jgoins Report This Comment Date: May 08, 2012 11:03AM
Well here at least hamburger is cheaper than other meats or fish per serving
and not so healthy because of the fat content. Chicken is pretty cheap but I
can't get 3 meals out of one chicken like I can one package of ground beef and
the Navy ruined chicken for me by leaving the pin feather on it when it is fried
so can't really eat it any longer.
FOS? What dat.
Mrkim Report This Comment Date: May 08, 2012 12:55PM
Staple items at the casa: ground chuck (turned into taco meat for wicked and
varied applications), boneless, skinless chicken (grilled, baked or chunked in
the crock pot with varied veggies for stew), pork chops/BACON! (endless
possibilities for consuming these porkulus treats), jalapenos, serranos,
cayennes and the occasional ghost chiles (the combinations with all the above
are myriad), coffee/tea (MUST HAVE CAFFEINE!) and soon to be comin from the
garden ... fresh veggies galore.
Do I eat healthy? Who gives a shit, I eat for taste, not longevity. One
absolute given is none of us will ever make it outta here alve. I'll likely be
drug out by my heels clutching a handful of peppers in one hand with cigs and my
lighter in the other
BTW, FOS = Full of Shit and waddn really headed your way JG

BlahX3 Report This Comment Date: May 08, 2012 01:34PM
For me eating healthy isn't about anything other than feeling good while I'm
here. The older I get the more it seems to matter. I'm not ancient yet but old
enough for things like that to make a difference.
BTW, the FOS was probably directed at me.

Eating healthy is not all it's cracked up to be. Why would I want to live
longer if I am going to be miserable the rest of my life? The other day my
heart doctor told me I need to lower my cholesterol by laying off carbs and
dairy products. I have already given up drinking and cussing, why should I give
up my other pleasures. I gave up drinking because I can't afford it and cussing
because I am intelligent enough to think of more words. I will sooner or later
have to give up smoking because I can't afford it much longer but I will not
give up my eating pleasures just to live a couple of years longer.
Mrkim Report This Comment Date: May 09, 2012 12:15PM
I'll problee give up cussin about the same time I give up exchangin oxygen.
Even with an extensive vocabulary some of those "special words" just
push a point to levels otherwise hard to reach.
Here's one I penned many years ago called
Wurdz
Words can and do flow from the tip of my pen :
Words can be nimble,
Words can be thick,
Words can make you happy,
Words can cut to the quick,
Words can be brilliant,
Words can be your candlestick
Words can be your measure, your meter, or rhyme
Words can assemble, resemble, be contemptable, even criminal
Words can give power,
Words can destroy,
Words can annoint you,
Words can be toys
Words can do most anything
Words, words, words
Hold the keys to release
Give vocalization, prominence, externalize
That which stirs in our souls

Well, as I said, I think it is more about feeling better while we ARE here. I m
not particularly interested in a longer life as much as I am in feeling better
for as long as I'm here. I have had to adjust my diet a bit here an there for
that. It's not a huge deal. I'm not overweight so I'm not particularly concerned
about that issue either. I just want to feel good. Like everybody else wants to.

red beans and rice, red beans and rice, red beans and rice
I could eat a plate twice. So nice. So nice. So nice.
Most people on the planet/ eat beans and rice
some can't afford beef or they think cows are nice
If you talk table manners don't believe all they

I don't know which fork is for meat or for salad
I haven't got a clue when they say "whet your palate"
eat a lot a prunes it'll keep you loose
skin'll turn orange if you drink carrot juice
I think beef jerky tastes like a boot
when I'm on the street I chew a licorice root
and if I have a soar throat /then I eat ginger
and I will break bread /with those who are strangers
so come into my cave / tonight I will show you
food is for life / and life I will show you.
If you're havin' problems/ I invite you here
step into my kitchen /we will cook away your fears
(chorus)
Amazing grace how sweet the sound that
saved a wretch like me
Dammit let's eat!
Mi casa es su casa. Mi cocina es su cocina.
you know what I meana!
(bridge)
get some boilin' water! Yeah!
get a pound aof beans! Yeah!
get some spice and make it nice! Yeah!
you know what I mean!
But if a friend has gas /then he's passin'
it gives me a headache end I gotta take aspirin
it makes me dizzy/ I fix him fizzies
to calm his stomach/ when it's feelin kinda
busy some like it white/but I like it brown
I like spicy chicken/ and I can throw it down
chilis come red /and chilis come green
when it's on the table/ I lick my plate clean
Then I drink a toast to the host and hostess
But first we give thanks/ to God the Mostest
'cause if I am a guest/ I always wash my plate
sip a sip a soda while I sing Amazing Grace
rings on my fingers /left round the tub
bass fulla bubbles/ bumpin like a wash tub
think about my troubles/ goin down the drain
dryin' up the puddles in the back of my brain.
But...

As a general rule I feel pretty good most all the time and I seldom ever get
sick. Aside from my regular checkup with my heart doctor, I never have to see a
GP and haven't in over 5 years. I don't get colds or other illnesses and I
attribute that to my diet, I eat anything even candy I dropped in the dirt. I
never shy away from germs which has increased my immunity to many things. The
last time I saw a regular doctor was when I quit smoking for 2 years after my
heart surgery. I was getting sick all the time back then and when I started
back to smoking I haven't had to see the doc since. I may not live more than 5
more years or I might live for another 30 but as long as I can still function
normally then I will be happy. It really doesn't matter because aliens are
coming on Dec. 21 to take us all home anyway.
